1997 Ford Explorer Power Seat Wiring

I'm changing the power cloth seats in a 1997 ford explorer xlt to Leather Power Seats from a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT but the wiring harness is different what do I do?

  • Anonymous Mar 12, 2014

I picked up a power seat from a 99 xlt (cloth, no heater), and replaced my manual seats in the 97 Explorer Sport. The motors (bottom only) tested fine before installation. I ran a 12guage wire, with an inline 25 amp fuse, under the seat, and through a wiring duct next to the door, to pos term on battery. The ground is to the seat mounting bolt on floor of vehicle. I used the same harness from donor vehicle. Works fine while driving..but the fuse blows while vehicle not in use. Nothing else on this circuit..and no issues while using seats or while driving..Has blown a 25 amp, and a 30amp. (i did say no heater..so not sure what else might be pulling a load!)

There are several options. It all depends on how bad you want the leather seats. You could disassemble the seats and transfer the upholstery from one seat to the other, or you could transfer the motor mechanisms from one seat to the other. The leather seats are most likely equipped with seat heater elements...there is no way you are going to get them to work without redesigning half of the vehicle, so you can either leave the heating elements out when you transfer the upholstery or just leave their respective connectors disconnected.

I am swapping in leather seats. New drivers seat is 10 way, with memory and heat. What wires should have 12v and ground to get power to the seat?

And it won't. You probably jumped too many years, And definitely the plugs. 6 to 10. Power and ground is there, Just at the wrong spot. You need pin outs for both. Alldatadiy.com. You can buy them both.

How do I wire 1999 explorer seats that are electric and have heat and side air bags into a 1994 explorer that has electric seats only?

you could probably get the seat track to work forward, backwards, but the rest will not unless you got the wiring and modules from a different car.

Can you take the seats out of a 96 Eddie Bauer explorer and put in seats from a 99 explorer limited. And how do you retire the harness

Yes, you can. Just have the care to check for the new electric installations you have to make. Follow the wiring that runs from the seat to the fuses case. I imagine you are talking about the electric seats... right?

2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac xls There is no

Not likely any reset button. If both seats have stopped working it must be some power problem I would think. There is a control unit under the seats but I think there are two, one for driver and one for passenger. Change the fuse anyway, make sure you have the right one.

Can i change a ford explorer cloth interior and trim for leather interior and trim. And if i can will the heated seats and memory settings on the front seats still work? Many thanks to anyone who can help...

Yes you could do all that, but it would be cheaper just to buy a explorer that has leather, that car isnt worth $1500 and leather seats will be $500 each, unless you find one in a salvage yard that you can get parts out of?

1998 Ford Explorer XLT Front drivers side power seat will go forward, up and down but not back! Is there an override?

See if the slide rail is bent. We just picked one up in a wrecking yard, leather seat perfect condition from a '98 Explorer, it has the same problem. If you put it back too far, it gets stuck and won't go forward. Check it for a bend or a burr in the metal which can be filed. Otherwise, ??

Explorer seat

You need a new or used passenger seat tilt lever. Mine broke also. There are a couple on sale on EBay for $30.00. See link, otherwise you can buy new from Ford for about $75.00.
