I'd at least check it out - all the power for the locking is routed through the driver's door before distributing throughout the car. I'm not sure about BMW but my Audi uses a vacuum pump for the locks - for some reason, they decided to use an electrically-triggered pump to control the locks. If your BMW is the same, it could be a broken vacuum line, which can be a bear to trace down, or it could be that the pump itself has died (that happens to the Audis). If you have one nearby, stop at AutoZone or another auto parts store and take a look at the Haynes manual for your car (they have them on the shelves), and see if the car has a vacuum-operated system. Check your switch assembly out, maybe swap another one in if you know someone else who has a similar car (see if you can borrow theirs for a few minutes to try it out), or get one at a salvage yard for about $10, and if that doesn't do it, then I'd start to suspect a vacuum pump. You may also find information at - it's an owner/enthusiast site that is free to join and has tremendous amounts of knowledge in its member base.

I'm sorry I can't be more help than that - I just haven't done much work on BMWs is all:(

The air powered centrol locking is a pain, not the least because of the high cost of a replacement circuit board.

I can't quite remember how I overcame the problem. I think I applied either pressure or suction to the air pipe to unlock everything and then once everything was unlocked I was able to manually lock and unlock each door and in this case the boot lid. The fuel flap was left unlocked without problems.

First try lubricating locks with powdered graphite. Avoid ALL liquid lock lubricants. Then work locks through all positions from passenger door. (single lock positions & double lock position) Lastly operate locks via boot lock.

Ive got an bmw 316 compact when pulling away from traffic lights, t-junction car jerks alot

High possibility the maf sensor needs dervicing or replace. you can clea it yourself with electrical spray cleaner CRC brand. It is located inside the intake duct in a metal section. Do not brush or rub to clean. Use the spray to thoroughly wash off the sensor, It is sensitive and expensive to replace so be nice to it.
The spray will dry fast so don't use compressed air and don't physically touch the unit. Good Luck, Ned

My bmw will not start when the central locking fails

There is a computer under the glove compartment that controls the locking system in your car that also works with the alarm system in your car and if that computer is not working properly that is the reason why. If that computer registers that the car was not open properly that it will deactivate the starter

The mechanic used his diagnostic gadget which showed a problem with the drivers door. All other doors windows locks work except drivers door. Has check the power supply to the drivers door switch all ok. Is the problem with this internal window control switch and how does this affect the drivers door lock?
