Speedodomete and odometer just quick working.
This is 1st year toyota did not use a cable for speedodometer, but rather a sensor.
But, is it sensor, and where is it located and is it possibly a relay??
Anyone have same problem and fixed it?
The sensor is usually located at the passenger side axel near the wheel drum. It works by sending a signal to the PCM at the exact velocity. I think it is the sensor.

They both work off of the same cable, so I would say that you have a problem in the speedometer head itself and will need replacing or sent in for repair.
so why not scan it first and wonder 2nd.
that is what the light means, Im seeing errors ,please do scan me now
to see all errors
back in 1992 , DIY you have only blink codes.
my guess is the VSS CODE is set and the VSS is in fact dead.
google Toyota 1992 4runner DTC check codes.
i bet code 9 (use a paper clip at the CHECK term.) http://www.troublecodes.net/toyota/
or log in alldata.com and read. its all there ,all the time.
The odometer is driven by a small electic motor. It receives the same signal the speedometer receives. If the odometer motor is no longer functioning, I'm affraid the entire instrument panel cluster will have to be replaced.
Any other questions, let me know.
Regards,
