I have a 93 MX3 and heard ticking coming from the engine as well. Don't know if it was exactly the top of the engine but my problem was I had an oil leak and the car was always about 2 quarts low. When I filled it up the ticking went away.

2.4l dohc ticking

Slight ticking is not a bad thing. Given the age of the engine, it is to be expected as things wear. Metal filings on the drain plug are not unusual either.

I have a 1994 Isuzu Trooper (3.2 L V6 DOHC) with 180,000 miles on it. Recently, the engine has developed a ticking in the lower end, as well as low oil pressure ( at idle around 5 to 10 psi). Recently the...

It appears that the main bearings are failing, as well as the rods bearings and maybe a wrist pin too.

In other words, it's worn out.

If you still like the vehicle and want to keep it, a warrantied used engine is probably the best solution.

Check at http://www.car-part.com/ for a local source of possible engine swaps.

Shakes and misses while accelerating , has a tick to the engine , i already replaced the spark plugs and wires, 1 new coil pack, air filter, fuel filter , new rear rocker arm and push rod. and oil change

Sounds like you still have a problem where the ticking is coming from. You may have to run a compression test on that cylinder you put the rocker arm on, are that side of the motor that is ticking. Could be the cam lobe wore down and need a camshaft.

I have a 2005 F150 5.4 litre. My oil pressure guage says the pressure is fine. Quite often, my truck simply just dies and the warning info. comes on saying I have low oil pressure ?? Could this be caused...

Hello, The oil pressure sender is a possibility. Testing the old one wouldn't be worth it as these parts are inexpensive. You may want to contact the Dealer with your Vin# about "Cam Phasers". It is also possible the "idle motor" ISO is letting the RPM drop too low which affects the oil pressure.

Back to the "Cam Phasers", for a few years on DOHC, double cam engines, as these parts wore there were problems with timing, noise and idle. These parts worked with oil flow. Since you are getting a low oil flow and a dying engine it would be good to have this part checked. It is important to use the correct oil and filter to maintain the function of the "Cam Phasers". There is an extended warranty for this problem which I believe runs 7 years.

Clicking when engine is ticking over

Most Hyundai's have hydraulic tappets for over head cams, so if its ticking you have a noise tappet. Try changing the oil and in that does not help try an additive to clean the oil gallery's and flush the engine. Also low oil pressure can cause htis fault as well so get it tested if you can.
