Hi, I am a mechanic for a large fleet service company, i mostly work on ford 7.3 and 6.0l diesels. If you have a 7.3l that runs like **** and is blowing white smoke there are a number of things that could cause this. first is the service engine light on, if so the DTC's contained in the pcm can be very valuable in finding the cause of your problem. Most of the time you'll get white smoke and a power loss due to bad injectors, but not always. Check the top fuel filter (it is located atop the engine in the middle of the valley, it has a black cap about 4 or 5 inches in diameter). This filter being blocked could also cause the problem your having. If it is blocked with black or brown (rusty) fuel i would recommend dropping the fuel tank and checking the screens in the fuel sending unit. Let me know how you make out.

Sounds like a head gasket leak on the intake side or intake gasket. Your boost is leaking out and coolant is leaking into the cylinder. Get a bulletproof kit. It is well worth the money

I have a 2004 f350 diesel. blows white smoke wail going down the road. so got back home and parked it. so now it starts and runs for a few then dies.Every time start white smoke come out and the engine run...

The cylinder head gasket has most likely failed, or the block or head have cracked or corroded to allow coolant into the combustion chambers. Commonly the fault is caused by such things as failing to use the correct coolant mix (using water only causes corrosion), or overheating due to coolant leak, or a failed water pump.

It's a major repair, and the exact cause won't be known until the engine is stripped down.

Smoking white smoke at idal and lots of black at 1500 and above . a little miss at 1500rpms no power lose

Black smoke is a sign of an overly rich fuel/air mixture. White smoke is a sign of coolant entering the combustion chamber. Most likely you have a blown head gasket. Other symptoms are loss of coolant with no apparent leak, loss of power, miss, oil level overfull, a white foamy substance on the underside of the oil fill cap. Stop driving this truck until you find the problem. Driving it with a blown head gasket will destroy the engine. A compression test will verify this.
