Question about 2001 Ford F350 Super Duty SuperCab
Hi, I am a mechanic for a large fleet service company, i mostly work on ford 7.3 and 6.0l diesels. If you have a 7.3l that runs like **** and is blowing white smoke there are a number of things that could cause this. first is the service engine light on, if so the DTC's contained in the pcm can be very valuable in finding the cause of your problem. Most of the time you'll get white smoke and a power loss due to bad injectors, but not always. Check the top fuel filter (it is located atop the engine in the middle of the valley, it has a black cap about 4 or 5 inches in diameter). This filter being blocked could also cause the problem your having. If it is blocked with black or brown (rusty) fuel i would recommend dropping the fuel tank and checking the screens in the fuel sending unit. Let me know how you make out.
