Question about 1996 Buick Century

96 buick century makes thumping noise when higher rpm is reached

My buick century makes a thumping sound when i accelerate harder. i dont have an rpm reading on my console but i know when it reaches pretty high the car makes a thumping noise that sounds like its coming from the drivers side of the vehicle. i usually test it with the car in park. it may not be a big deal, but i was wondering if it could be something i need to replace to avoid future problems, or if its something simple to fix.

Sounds like a classic motor mount problem. Might want to get the dogbone strut checked as well.

Power (acceleration) loss at mid-high RPM only

Loss of acceleration, the backpressure noise and such are kinda tell tale signs of that converter having problems, feel the exhaust out of the tailpipe it will be warm normally have someone step on the gas and if its super hot it'd be a step in the right direction.

Roaring noise

This is your radiator fan... it willl pull air through when it is needed to keep your engine and coolant cool... if your engine needs to cool quickly it will blow harder making the "roaring" sound louder

Hi, I have a 96 buick century,if i dont use it battery goes dead

The radio in my 1996 Buick century had a clock light that did not go off when the car was shut off, so the battery would go dead after 2 days. Disconnected the radio and all was well. Getting ready for a new radio now.

Thumping in Transmision

Could easily be torque converter internal broken part. This is a common problem. I would check the transmission oil filter and the pan to see if there are any metal filings anywhere. If so, you need new trans and torque converter. Rick

My car is jerking while accelerating and reaching certain RPM

I would look for a fault in the ignition system such as a cracked spark plug. Might need a scope check to put your finger on the problem
