Question about 1996 Geo Metro

2 Answers

2001 geo metro lsi, engine noise annoying, mostly on acceletation I just bought a 1996 Geo Metro 1 owner, Senior Lady for cheap price. I had just a little bit of gasoline. Since I realized the engine was making noise at acceleration, I started accelerating slowly up to finish the gasoline. Then I fueled with premium gasoline hopping have it fixed. None. The noise is still there on acceleration. A friend of mine at Autozone told me to check spark plugs and wires, fuel filter and timing aswell. I asked him: The ususal driver was this senior lady who supposedly drove it slowly. Is not possible that carbon has build up into the combustion chambers? He told me yes, then add some injector cleaner to gasoline too. I have confidense in my Autozone friend. I will follow his advise. Some comment?

You didn't describe the nature of the 'noise' which is probably why you haven't received a prior reply.
If it is missing, it might be injector problems but the injectors themselves are not loud enough to be heard over the other engine noise.
Spark plugs, ignition wiring, fuel filters cannot 'make noise.' Any of those can cause the car to run rough but not cause any specific noise unless it is related to the engine misfiring and in that case, it wouldn't just be a source of noise but also inadequate acceleration and a prominent jerking of the car at low RPMs. Carbon buildup is the likely cause although causing any engine to lug (drive in a higher gear at low speeds) can damage bearings in the engine, creating excessive bearing play and a knocking noise under some conditions. Also, a failed exhaust manifold gasket or associated pipes being cracked can really cause a racket.
Without us hearing the noise, it's kind of hard to diagnose it, but the above might give you some guidance.

Does a 1996 Geo Metro have the same engine as a 1997 Geo Metro?

join a metro forum,

few cars on earth had one engine , most have options
the metro had 3.
so if both cars had the same engine , are they the same.
is the real question.
read the wiki on geo metro.
here is one other issue , quoted
1997 featured the four-cylinder engine with a new sixteen-valve head (rather than the eight valves of the earlier design)

that means the EFI is different and head. (at least)

Geo metro 1996

I believe it will since the model of car is not greatly changed over 4 years and the 95 was the first in the revamped Geo series. They mostly just change the body style not the engine parts.

I took motor/tranny out of well maintained/well running 1994 Geo metro xf and installed them in a 1995 geo metro LSI. everything went well i had to use the 1995 intake and throttle body due to wiring...

Yes, because the specs are different... most manufatures change the specs on vehicles every four years, so 90-94 is most likely all the same, but then you will have 95-99 an so on an so on.. Good Luck

Locating camshaft sensor in 1996 geo metro

So what engine is in it? It always helps to state which engine you have, trans, 4 door ect. Should be near the harmonic balancer either attatched to ther front of the engine, or bolted to the engine block.

Do the valves need to be adjusted on a 92 geo metro lsi

No. Geo Metros use hydraulic lifters which can not be adjusted. If you Metro is making excessive valve noise, the lifters are probably worn out or the oil level is low.
