Question about 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera

High idleing problem

I have a 1993 olds ciera with a 3300 engine. When I start it, the idle is very high. I checked the throttle linkage to see if it was tight or binding. I dont know what else to do. I hope someone can steer me in the right direction. Thanks for any help in advance Mark.

Try and replace (or even just clean off) the idle air control motor it builds up with carbon often its located on the throttle body..u can clean it with carb cleaner or even brake parts cleaner it can be expensive to replace at parts stores but maybe a junkyard one will work too

1993 F150. Idles very high when cold but will

sounds like 2 different problems..about the high idle, for example my 94 Bronco had a problem with the throttle sticking,it wasnt closing all the way,so i took apart the linkage at the throttle body and found that the shaft that the linkage pivets on was dirty so the shaft would not move easily on it.If i could put a picture on this i would, but dont know how..the part of the linkage im trying to point out i believe is where the cable connects from the gas pedal,on top of the shaft is a C clip, pull off that clip and pull the shaft off by turning back and forth while lifting at the same time.clean the shaft with sand paper or emery cloth and grease and reassemble...now for the shifting hard and check engine light, most likely its the vehicle speed sensor bad, thats if when you put it in gear and it hits hard and when it shifts into the next gear it hits hard. That sensor is about $35.00...you shouldnt have to worry about resetting the computer,an OBD11 computer system resets itself after so many revolutions of the engine,in a Ford

replace throttle body gasket. first check to see if carbon has built up around the throttle valves in throttle body if so remove and clean it with throttle body cleaner.and a old tooth brush. besure to remove all electrical components or any thing that plastic or rubber the cleaner will destroy it.
