Once the engine has cooled, locate the radiator drain plug and place a large catch pan underneath it. To expedite the draining process, remove your radiator fill cap to allow air to enter the system. With the cooling system refilled with tap water, replace the radiator fill cap and run the engine allowing it to reach operating temperature.drain radiator,
At this point, if you have opted to purchase a radiator flush kit, you should refill the cooling system with tap water and add the caustic fluid as directed.
Run the engine for as long as the radiator flush kit calls for (usually less than 10 minutes). follow directions on bottle for flushing. if you feel you want to use a T connection just cut into return line, from heater core. then you can use a garden hose to flush system.

I have a blackish color in my coolant resevore. Is this due to due to demodox coolant or do i need a radiator flush done.

You mean DexCool coolant? If it's black, you need to flush the system and refill with the recommended coolant. A radiator flush only removes 1/3 of the coolant in the system. YOu want a full coolant flush.

How to Flush the Cooling System.

Normally the engine operates at 195F, unless you have replaced the thermostat with another one at 185F. If the temperature has a tendency to rise up, the reason is a partially obstructed cooling system or/and a bad thermostat. The first part of the cooling system that gives up is the heater core, because the coolant flowing channels are thin. It is the time for a coolant flush in your car. To do it right then you need time. Plan ahead for a weekend. With a cooled engine, start with the heater core hoses. Disconnect both of them, but the dirt has to go out of your car, so with a garden hose back flush it and let the dirt to get out of your cooling system. After you will get clean discharge,it is the time for coolant bottle, remove it, discharge the used coolant and clean it. The third to come is the radiator. Open the drain cook, or disconnect the lower radiator hose, and disposal used coolant properly. Now open the radiator cap and flush with water the radiator till discharge will be clear. You think that you are done? Not yet. There is half of old dirty coolant trapped in the system. Install everything, and connect all coolant system hoses, radiator, heater core and coolant bottle. Now you have to run your car with water. Fill out the cooling system with distilled water, start engine, turn on the heater high, and run till upper radiator hose get hot. That means the thermostat opens. Let the engine to cool down, open the radiator cap, and draining cook or lover radiator hose and drain everything. You can use flush detergent, if you wanted, at this stage, but flushing with detergent will add 4 more hours, because the detergent is colorless and you have to guess how many fill and drain processes to do, to get rid of it. I do not do it, but if your cooling system is very dirty you have to do it. After the last drain, fill the cooling system with concentrated antifreeze and 30% distilled water. The reason is because it is more water trapped inside the cooling system. The goal is to reach 50/50concentration. You need a coolant tester to find this. Start the engine and add coolant till radiator is full. Install the radiator cap and bleed the system. After driving you car for a day or so, let engine to cool down, open the radiator cap check the concentration of coolant with the tester, and add antifreeze or distilled water as necessary. It is a good idea to replace the thermostat while flushing the radiator. This procedure has to be done every 2 to 3 years. It is up to you to decide to use RED GM Dex-Cool or GREEN Prestone antifreeze. In all my cars I have replaced Dex-Cool with Prestone, but I flush the system every 2 years, and I never had a cooling system problem in all my cars.

What is proper method for flushing the radiator and engine in a 1999 Pontiac Montana?

1: Drain coolant system
2: Purchase coolant flush, making sure you have the proper amount for your size of coolant system
3: Pour coolant flush into your radiator, filling the rest with water
4: On the coolant flush bottle it will tell you how long to run your vehicle
5: Once done running, let cool enough to open radiator cap, and drain system COMPLETELY by first draining out of pep **** on radiator, then taking one side of the hoses off the radiator and draining those
6: Put hoses back on and fill system with coolant. When the fluid gets to the top of the fill port on radiator, start vehicle and let run, allowing air to escape the system, and fill as necessary

What type of coolant goes in a Buick rendevous?

The original coolant used in your vehicle was DEXCOOL. It is a redish or orangish colored coolant. If it is grean it has been flushed to conventiional coolant. If you can not tell what color it is it is overdue for a coolant flush. It will make no difference if you use DEXCOOL or conventional coolant when you flush as long as you completely flush the system over to whatever you decide to use.

2000 ford escort over heats, and no heat .

try replacing thermostat and do a coolant flush, heater matrix behind dash is prone to blockage or leakeage ( with leakage usually footwells are always damp ) before you replace the coolant after flush, fill and drain with water a couple of times, should sort it and it easier than replacing heater matrix. if heater has not been working for a while, as in 12 / 18 months matrix replacement might be only option, but spending a couple of quid on flush is worth a try first

Flushing a radiator is basically removing the pedcock value and running a large amount of coolant through the system?

Purchase a tee made by Prestone at any auto parts store. Install the tee to the heater hose and flush it by their instructions. This way you also will flush out the heater core as well. Flushing the way you describes only gets the job halfway clean

How to flush coolant system dodge 2004 4x4 pick up truck 4.7 engi

After playing "hide and seek" with drains for years, most times finding they will not turn or are otherwise broken, I finally got smart and began just removing the lower hose from the radiator. It is far faster, most times easier to get to and does the job!! Don't do this hot or you will get an unwanted bath of hot antifreeze. Remove the fill cap after you have the hose off.
