Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

1999 Beetle. Car will start fine and run good, then after 15 minutes or so it hitches and sometimes shuts down. Seems to me to be a fuel/air problem. I understand the problem could be 1 of several things, but what is the most likely?

Ah!! Had the same problem with mine. Next time it does it, real quick look underneath the vehicle driverside you should the catalytic converter. If that is scorching hot, its probably gone bad. When its rectricted or gets clogged the flow cease's which would cause a loss of power and and sometimes casue the vehilcle turn shut off. It happen to me once on the freeway. Changed it out and problem was solved. Hope this helps out!

car shuts off when it gets to normal operating range. it takes 10-15 minutes to reach normal range. causes: low coolant, failing coolant tempurature sensor, air in water pump, check the coolant temp. sensor. if it is bad it will send wrong info to engine when hot, and shut it down. ITS WORTH A TRY!! good-day!

Check your fuel pressure regulator, just pull the vacuum line off of it and see if it is leaking fuel, it is found on the fuel rail, will be the only vacuum line on the fuel rail.

1.Start by changing plugs and wires. 2.Check for vacuum leaks. With the engine running, wigglr every hose you can see, to make sure nothing is loose or cracked. 3.Change fuel filter. 4.Check timing. 5.Check air control valve. 6.Check idle control sensor.

Try driving it with the MAF unplugged and see how it runs. As for the Jetta, VW has release a service bulletin on the oil in intake problem. But I can't remember every thing in the bulletin. I'll have to look it up.

Car won't restart right away.

your car is bringing in air that the mass airflow sees as way to hot, so it is not allowing the car to start, if this is happening, you may also be experiencing a random misfire during operation.

Anti theft system. You might have a door lock causing the anti theft system to kick in. (thinking its being stolen.)

I hit a curb and now the 1999 vw beetle will start but immediatet

You might try looking under the car for smashed fuel lines. The fuel lines run down the sides under the car, running up on a curb could very easily crush them leading to fuel starvation.Good luck,
