Solid possibly but you will need to have a wheel alignment down as well as inspection of tie rods and ball joints as well as the rim and tire. just exactly how hard did you hit it ?

that's a likely culprit as well. the tie rods are threaded onto the rack arms so perhaps you have cause the tie rod to be pushed into the arm of the rack on that side... only good way to tell is to have a mechanic inspect it.... you can also measure one side then measure the other to see how far it should be threaded on.

jack up the car on that side.... with a floor jack NOT the one you use to change a tire. use a jack stand under it for safety. (ALWAYS ALWAYS) think safety when you jack up your car. have a friend look under the car at the tie rod and rack while you move the tire from side to side. watch what moves. if you see nothing out of the ordinary grab the tire in the 12 and 6 o'clock position and try to move it that way. if it moves that way it's likely a ball joint.

Did i mention use a floor jack and jack stand for safety ?

Loose steering wheel shaft on 97 EXP. when I hit a bump i get the death wobble I checked everything else and and so did pep boys, tire discounters and bob somerell Tires, all is good. Has anyone had this...

Hello, Sir is your 1997 Ford Expedition a 4X4? It sounds like the drag line and it's ball joints.
There is a bent heavy steel arm at the end of steering box. On the end of this pitman arm is the drag link and the drag link is hook to each front hub with a ball joint on each end and the pitman arm. This way when the steering wheel is turning both wheels in the front will follow each other.
If the ball joint are wore out on the drag link this will cause the front wheels to wobble.

Need to get the Ford Exp off the ground where the front wheels are free of a load. Now, just grab one of the front wheels and move it back and forth. There a good possiblity it rattle like marble in a car.
Also, check the upper and lower control arms that attached to each front hub. There are hugh ball joint in each control arm, upper and lower on each of the Ford Exp. Two per side four all together.
I hope this help you. GB...stewbison

When driving my98 escort the wheels feel like they are going to fall off. there is alot of shaking and the steering wheel is not straight to

The first thing I would check for is a bent wheel. If the wheel is straight than the next thing to check would be a separated tire.

The tread on the tire should be smooth and even all the way around. If it is bulging out in a spot than the tire is separated.

Since the steering wheel is not straight I would suspect there is more to the story. Did you hit a curb or a pothole? If so you may have also bent some suspension components (worst case) or best case knocked the alignment out.

I slid into a curb on icy road at about 10 mph and now my tire is toed inboard and it vibrates a bit. What might be the problem. thankyou

You have bent some part of the steering, most likely.
You want to check out the wheel and tire for damage, as well as the suspension.

I would go to an alignment only shop ,to explain what happened, not an auto repair chain or a dealer

Hit a curb 1999 Ford Taurus SE 16" wheels steering problem

It could be the steering rack but the first thing you should do is have an alignment job done. Even if there is another problem, the hit would almost certainly knocked your suspension out of alignment. So you'll probably need to get this done anyway. If there's still a problem after that, then I'd have your steering looked at. But the alignment may fix it entirely.
