I installed a new battery in my 2000 Corvette. Now it thinks I am trying to steal it. I do not have the code for the car.

I know that I can take the car to the dealer, but there must be some way to fix the problem myself.

  • jcwcpa Sep 28, 2008

    I used your sequence.
    1. diconnect the negative cable on the battery.
    2. turn the key on
    3. connect the cable again
    4. unlock the car using the key fob.
It worked and and car ran--but when I take the key out, it forgets again.

  • jcwcpa Sep 28, 2008

Someone has to have a better idea.

  • jcwcpa Sep 30, 2008

This is not an aftermarket system. This is the GM system.

Yours was the best information. Thank you.

HI there,
Ok, so here is how it goes.
Get in the car, and turn on the key.
Please reset any messages on the DIC, to where you have a blank screen.
Then, push and hold the #4 button while pushing the #1 button 4 times.
Watch, and write down all codes seen. They come fast, so please be ready with a pen.
Then, you can post your findings, and let us know.
Besttoyou, and remember, you are looking for the PCM, and the BCM codes in this instance.

    Disarming the System
Always use your key or the remote keyless entry
transmitter to unlock a door. Unlocking a door any other
way will set off the alarm. If your alarm sounds,
listed below are the ways you can disarm it:
Unlock the driver’s door with your key.
Put the key in the ignition.
Press the UNLOCK button on the remote keyless
    entry transmitter.
Now, if a door or the hatch/trunk lid is opened without
the key or the remote keyless entry transmitter, the
alarm will go off. Your horn will sound for two minutes,
then it will go off to save battery power. And, your
    vehicle won’t start.
The theft-deterrent system won’t arm if you lock the
driver’s door with a key, the manual door lock, or if you
use the power door lock after the doors are closed.
If your passenger stays in the vehicle when you leave
with the keys, have the passenger lock the vehicle after
the doors are closed. This way the alarm won’t arm,
and your passenger won’t set it off.

Your alarm system is factory installed... All vehicles have a valet button/switch But this is a small button that is
hidden. It may be on the steering column or in the fuse box panel// you may also check the glove box.

    • Once you locate the Valet Button

    • Put the Key in the inginition while holding down the Valet Button

    • Next you turn the key to acc or just start the car.
you may need to try this a few times to see if there is a beep while you have the button compressed
I looked in the owners manual and they are not listing it. But I have a Ford Expedition and the owners manual does not list it in there either.

It may take you awhile to locate it.

    good luck.

You will have to contact your local chevy dealer as the code is in your manual. If you go there and show them your title I believe they give you all the info you need. That is the only way to fix it. Please take a moment and accept and rate my solution. If you need help locating the nearest dealer I can assist you with that as well.
Thanks,
Lee

I would hope if you have a corvette you should have the time and money to fix this problem properly. Next time I would also consider taking the vette to the dealership to change the battery if you don't have the code.
Good luck I hope you will reconsider your rating,

If you want to bypass the system it may be possible but I would recommend keeping the car stock. No there really isn't if there was then anyone wanting to steal the car would know to.
    Thanks,
    Lee

All this time you have spent you could have already had the problem fixed by a professional in 2 minutes. In most peoples case time is money. So how much money is your time worth? because you could this problem fixed for quite cheap.
    Thanks,

Here is the most simplistic answer I can give you as you've already started the car once, which was your opportunity to drop it off at the Chevy Dealership. You won't have a second change I believe. That's the point of anti theft, especially factory installed systems.

Call Triple A, as they will make sure your vet doesn't get hammered by a rock in transit. Have it taken to your dealership. Get a receipt.

On Monday, call your insurance agent on getting your money refunded for the tow if you don't have AAA.
Next, visit your dealership or call and tell them the trouble. Have them also show you or move the valet switch which has to be inside the vehicle.

I know this isn't what you want to hear on a Sunday from Hell, but your basically stuck unless you can get a AAA mechanic who knows how to do it for you and most do, so may a locksmith, but I'd stick with a AAA mechanic. That's their job.

I know this doesn't solve your problem. But, I hope you are now empowered to resolve it correctly.

Regards,
Worldvet

I need an unlock code for a radio in my 99 corvette

If you have a good relationship at the car dealer, they should be able to get that code for you and re program you radio too for free if not for a low fee. If there going to charge you a crazy amount try 0000 and if that does not work, www.radio-code.com can help you get the code for less then the crazy amount at the dealer. Good luck and keep me posted.
