The dinging from the dash is the Air bag system check. Check that the bulb in the dash isn't burned out. The stalling and spitting could be clogged converter. Check how much exhaust is coming out of the tail pipe when you rev it. The smoke could just be from a leaking valve cover gasket.
30 minutes or seconds? does the dome lamp come on, like one of the doors not closed all the way? A good repair shop or the Ford dealer can get a scanner and watch for the belts, doors, lights, ect ( I think thats the only thing that will ring a chime) as you drive and see whats making it go on.
YES..... IT'S NOT EASY TO FIX. IF I REMEMBER RIGHT THE TANK NEEDS TO COME OUT, SOME OF THESE PARTS CAN BE $$$ I FOUND THE BEST WAY TO AVOID FUEL PUMP AND SENDING UNIT ISSUES IS TO TRY TO KEEP THE TANK AT LEAST 1/3 FULL OR MORE, THE PUMP IS GAS COOLED (YEP) AND THE MORE GAS THATS IN THE TANK, THE HAPPIER YOUR PUMP IS.THE GAS SWASHES AROUND IN THE TANK AND IF YOU DRIVE SLOWER, IT'S LESS APT TO DO THE DING DING DING. NOISE... THATS NOT A RACE CAR AND IF YOU DRIVE IT NICE YOU CAN SQUEAK SOME MILES OUT OF HER.. I GOT OVER 500,000 MILES ON A 84 CARAVAN, I SOLD IT TO MY FRIEND AND HE HIT A CITY BUS WITH IT. HE'S OK BUT THE VAN WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SEEN.. ONE OF THE TRICKS TO A LONG LIFE IS TO SHUT THE MOTOR OFF IN GEAR, THEN PUT IT IN PARK. the dinging is from having the turn signal on to long it s a warning I know that sounds strange, mine did the same thing happen to me i made a turn but the turn signal didnt shut off couple mins. later i hear ding ding ding looked at dash turn signal was on shut it off it quit dinging. hope this helps
