Question about 1999 Ford Windstar

Engine light on my 1999 windstar is blinking

Hello, I have a windstar and for the last 4 weeks the engine light was blinking and it seems not to be getting gas, them all of a sudden it perks up again, I replaced the wires, plugs, and fuel filter, of course it was the original fuel filter, do you think my coil pack could be gone or maybe the injectors need to be cleaned. HELP.

I have the same problem, only it occurred after we replaced the battery and then the alternator and then all guages went crazy. I believe we have replaced every sensor plus 2 transmisions and anything else we could replace and low and behold still more problems!!!!!

you have to get the error codes in order to pinpoint what the problem is. there is this diagnostic tool that would be connected to your car to know the error code.

    tnx 4 using fixya,

The windstars are very bad for cracked ignition coils, to check you have to remove the coil, remove spark plug wires from coil, disconnect main harness from coil and remove the 3 7mm bolts that hold it in place, once it is out inspect it for cracks, if it is the coil expect to pay around $105 for a new one from your Ford dealer

There are several types of testing scanners. The cheaper type need an check light to stay on showing check engine light. The more expensive scanners show real time readings whether a check light is on or not. There can be a big assortment of problems that may give the symptoms you show. Have someone check the Vacuum level of the engine.

Sounds to me like it may be a sensor in the transmission. Possibly the shift seleniod or the od sensor itself.

1999 ford windstar check engine light

had the same problem with my 1999 Windstar. The part's store told me that it's on the same fuse as the ignition switch. So I ruled out a fuse issue because everything else on my ignition was working just fine. They suggested I run a new hot wire to the connector. That didn't sound right to me. A couple of weeks later my alternator went. After I replaced it, the OBD II now reads just fine.

Hi krisberg,

With the engine check light blinking, it would be a good idea to drive past the dealers and have them do a scan on the vehicle....You may be having a problem with the fuel pump....The pressure return valve or the throttle body.....Could also be a number of other defects which will cause the problem that you're having.....A scan will tell you what the problem is without having to guess
