Question about 1998 Ford Escort
Last week my car didn't wanna turn back on i thought it was the battery because the alternator keeps the car running , i replaced the battery it worked for a few days then the battery died out on the way home but the car still ran . What do i do? Seems like the alternator isn't reaching the battery .
Hello sounds like the Alternator well voltage regulator use a voltmeter on D/C and check voltage at battery with engine running should be 13.7 to 14.3. any lower and it will keep the car running but you will use more power them the alternator can put back into the battery to recharge it. and if you have replaced the alternator also check to see if there is 12 volts going to the connector to the alternator it needs power to make power. I have had a few cars that have lost power to the alternator and a quick fix if no power to the alternator is to run a jumper from the battery to the positive side of the connector just to see if it works then trace for the broken wire or fusible like
