I dont know if they had chipped keys that far back but a friend of mine had a gm car that when you stick the wrong key in the ignition the pcm says no and shuts down ignition until you plug in a scanner and reset the pcm. also does the fob have good batteries?

There is no reset button.
Question for you: When you try to start it, does the starter "click" one time?
If so, your starter motor needs attention.
