No, unless you change the whole switch.

YES it can! Just take a resistance measurement of the pellet on the key. Next, remove the driverside hush pad covering the pedals. On the master plug assembly for all of the wiring going up the column you will find two small wires, one is orange ond the other is white, all that you need to do is to cut these two wires and splice in a resistor of the same value that you measured off of the pellet on the key, and splice it into the tow wires on the connector side of the wires you you cut. Problem fixed and no need to replace the key switch. NOTE! make sure you splice into the wires that are coming out of the connector and NOT the ones that go up the column to the key switch.

SOURCE: anti theft system . Had to replace ignition key

The dealer is right...the 89 firebird did not come with a chipped key antitheft system. You should never have had a key with a chip to begin with.

Bypass ignition switch

If the vehicle has an anti-theft device or immobilizer, you can't bypass it. You have to fix what is wrong.

Tip & How-To about Cars & Trucks

Want to bypass your vehicle security system? The short answer is you can't!

All modern cars have alarms and immobilizers. There is a chip in the key and a chip in the ignition lock. If both are present, the ECM (engine control module) releases power to the ignition circuit. When you turn the key, the starter spins the engine and you get a spark. If any one of those three items are not in the chain, you get the engine to turn, but no spark. There is no way to beat the system. You have to fix what is wrong, not find a way around it.

The immobilizer is in place to stop exactly what you are trying to do.

Lost key can I bypass security.

No you can't. The key has a chip that matches the chip in the ignition switch. The ECM interrogates both, and if they are there, releases power to the ignition system.

Can i bypass the ignition safety lost key 01 ford escape xlt

Sorry you can't. Ford's suck because you have to have two keys to reprogram the security to the keys. Last one I had done cost about $200. Dealer only.

My security light is on, on my 97 bonneville, my car wont start does the chip in the key have anything to do with starting it, or the light on?

The chip in the key is not a chip, it is a piece of resistive wire, the key reader See's the resistance of the key is correct and allows the car to start. The common cause of the problem you have is the reader in the ignition lock cylinder. You can't buy that part anymore so you must bypass it, this of course will disable the security system (called the VATS system). Here is how you bypass it, go here to read about the procedure.

Second Chip key for 2005 Aveo won't work

assuming the 2005 model year stil uses viper security systems...the chip in the key carries a magnetic resistance frequency. if the chip is damaged or corroded the frequency will change and wont engage the igntion. you can either get another key made (about 75 dollars) or bypass the ignition lockout feature.

How do i bypass the theft sercurity in my ignition because i changed my ignition out to a regular ignition and key without a chip

The security system is still looking for that signal from the chip. That's why you are not starting. Go to this link, should have all the info you need to bypass that.

Is ther a security problem when installing a auto start

Hi my name is Ben. The mechanic is telling you the truth. Chevrolet uses what they call the PassLok system. Even though there is no security chip in your key, there is still a security chip in the ignition switch which must be bypassed for the remote start to work. The actual bypass module is relatively cheap, but it does require extra labor to install. I hope this helps.

This car key has the VATS security chip in it. These keys are at least 100 bucks. You can rip into the ignition part and start the car with the wires, but it wont work untill you bypass the SECURITY system. Here is a link about the security. Gives you the 15 possible key chip codes and links to help bypass this system.

I have lost my keys to my 1991 pontiac firebird my key has the chip in it for the anti thft system is the a way to bypass the security system so I can replace the lock with a standard ingition lock

there is a way I've seen it done but never have done it myself. That "chip" is like a resistor for the anti theft system. When I asked the guy how he bypasses it, he stated, "I find the correct resistance needed, then add a resistor in line so that it bypasses the ignition switch." This way the orginal keys will work even if they don't have the "chip." Now the vechile he did that on he still had the key with the chip. The chip or ignition cylinder wasn't contacting each other so it would sometimes run and sometimes wouldn't. So I don't know if he tested the key or if there is a different way. I know this isn't much help but I KNOW it can be done.
