1995 900 S saab

I have a 1995 900 S saab that shuts off while running... On one occasion, I got the check gearbox signal..... I'm not sure where it's located on the car? Not sure if oil is needed or new maxi fuses.....

I have a 1996 900 SE Turbo Coupe, black on black, Auto.  Recently the car started to shut off while driving.  While moving, the car looses all power, and stalls out, with all the instrument panels going blank, except for the check engine and check gear box lights. It usually happens less frequently when the car is cold, but by the time it warms up, it happens almost every time you try to go forward.  First my mechanic though it was the O2 sensor, but he replaced that and it didn't do it.  Then he tried the transmission control computer, and it also didn't help.  Now he thinks it is some sort of short somewhere in the miles of wiring and does not think it is worth searching for.  He has declared the car "a very valuable parts car".  I am not ready to let the car go.  Is there any way to search for a short that would be relatively quick? Or has anyone else had this problem and solved it?
    Thanks,
    Cody

I used to have a saab 9000 and at one point the engine started turning off periodically regardless whether i was on the highway, stopped, etc. I sometimes had problems restarting it as well right after that happened. my mechanic narrowed it down to the Ignition Control Module which, after replacing, solved the problem. the part cost me only about $90 and it's really easy to replace (you just unplug the old one and plug the new one into a socket).
hope this helps.

This happen to us in our 1994 Saab 900 S in the Sacramento area. We took it to three different European shops and the only folks who figured out the problem was the Saab dealership.

We have not stalled since, over four years ago!

They re-gounded some of the electrical work...I dont have the paperwork in front of me right now, cant give specifics right now. It did take them abt a week to trouble shoot this - they only charged us for a few hours of labor and no storage fees. Sometimes dealer mechanics can "figure" stuff out.

Good luck

Check gearbox light, car drives sluggish, heater cuts off.

You have a bad gearbox position sensor located on the transmission. When the transmission computer sees the fault in that sensor it goes into a protective mode in your car starts out in second gear that's why it is sluggish. This is a very common failure on that car. The heater issue is not related.

1997 saab convertible check gearbox light comes on and off

Most common fault is the gearbox position sensor. This is like a neutral safety switch located on the top of the transmission where the shift cable looks up.
