Hello Scott,

Thanks So Much, for contacting me. I believe,, based on your symptoms, that you have a bad 02 sensor relating to your emissions, which is happening by your Cadillac convertor. I would have auto zone or place like that in your home town confirm this. They can check with there hand help diagnostic computer to check to make sure it is the one i feel is out. Once they have, it will cost about 80 bucks and problem solved. Engine light will be off and of course car will not stall at stop lights anymore. Based on the year of car, i think that is your problem. If you feel that this makes sense and you can trust I am accurate on the problem, please rate my solution as well as some kind words always appreciated. If you need additional questions, feel free to contact me anytime. I also give a 100% money back guarantee on my solution. Thanks So Much, Mike

My 1989 pontiac grand prix keeps stalling once it is warmed up after about 15 minutes of idle.

No, not the oxygen sensor. A couple of things you need to make clear. What light flickers, then stays on? That can't be a sensor light, it would have to be the "check engine light" or an engine temperature light (for like when your cluster has no temperature gauge, but just the "red light").
At any rate, the sensor you changed is not the engine temp. sending unit for the instrument panel. I believe on your '89 there would be two sensors for temp. One is the CTS for the engine computer, and the other is a sending unit for the dash, probably a 1 wire connector. It could be at fault, but it wouldn't cause stalling, I do not think anyway.
If it stalls and won't restart until cooled, this is a symptom of loss of ignition (spark) caused by either a faulty coil, or faulty Ignition Control Module (the coil controller), or last a faulty Crank Position Sensor (this sensor used by computer to determine ignition spark timing). You could test if ignition is lost, by checking for spark right after the engine warms and then stalls. If you have no spark to a spark plug right after it stalls, this is the reason for stalling. Usually it is the crank sensor, rather than the ignition control module or an ignition coil. Your car has 3 coils anyway in a "coil pack", so if one coil went bad, you'd still have two good coils, but engine would only be firing on four of the six cylinders-could easily stall a car.
You should check for trouble codes whenever you have a problem. A code might have been set. Easy to check for codes on your car, just ask if you don't know how-only takes a jumper wire or even a paper clip works. good luck.

Possible issues with the engine light coming on in my 2003 Acura TL if it is still running great?

Stop by local Autozone,Advance or any good auto parts store and have them do a FREE fault scan. It could be as simple as glitch due to cold weather, a stall, etc. Your OB tracks all functions and might be something that happened only once but enough to trigger sensor. It could also be early warning of part failure. When they do the scan, they come out to your car, plug in and read codes. They can print out the codes for you and reset your lights - FREE

1989 for tempo starts fine but after idling for a few minutes will quit. Will stall when you pull up to a stop sign. Have to keep the engine revved up to keep it running. The check engine light comes on...

hi,

its time for new fuel filter, new fuel injectors, spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap and rotor. the engine in the tempo is a good one and if you take care of it that car should last quite a while longer..

My 96 crown vic stalls out for no reason

First, has the fuel filter been changed, and is the fuel pump in good working order. Next, the engine will stall only every once and awhile, have the MAF sensor on the air intake checked. This will cause what you are having. The engine will stall, then start up right after. This sensor costs a few $$$, since only Ford has it, but they can check it, and like your mechanic says, while it's running there's nothing to find wrong. But, from experience, I know the MAF sensor will do this. Once you open the new box from Ford. it's your's. You could try and find a good used one from a scrap yard, put in on yourself, it's not hard, run the car and keep your'r with you. If you have a problem with the used one, just change over. If this works, then you can buy a new one. Good luck.

MY 1998 FORD ESCORT RUNS GOOD,,BUT WHEN I LEAVE IT TO WARM UP OR IM AT STOP LIGHT IN MOST OCCASIONS ITLL LIKE STALL AND AFTER AWHILE ITLL DIE OUT..BUT ITLL START BACK UP[ LIKE NOTHING AND RUN GOOD IT...

Is it an engine with a carburetor? If so, I can help with this information:

If the car stalls when it warms up, as you said, then here's a handy diagnostic article that specifically addresses this issue of yours, explaining the most probable cause of it:

If the car stalls when you brake/stop, as you said, then here's a handy diagnostic article that specifically addresses this issue of yours, explaining the probable cause of it:

These articles should help.
Good luck!

2001 Acura MDX Stalling.

you may want to check the ground wire for the engine; if the car just shut down it's possibly an electrical. if the ends are corroded replace.
