Removal of driver side front power window regulator

The cable on my window partially broke and became frayed and so doesn't work anymore. I need to remove and replace the regulator but since I can't really see inside the door very well, I'm not sure exactly what to do. I have a Chilton's manual but it mostly just says to remove the bolts and retainer. I don't know where these are located or what they might look/feel like in there. If anybody has some type of schematic or a walk-through it would be very helpful.

Since I couldn't see what was going on inside the door, I went and bought the window regulator from Autozone for $60. That way I could at least see what the part looked like. I then took off the door panel, removed the dust cover and punched the center of the three rivets holding the window motor onto the door. I took a 1/4" drill bit and drilled out the remaining rivet. With a little struggling, I was able to move the motor around so I could take the three bolts out that held the mounting bracket and the motor onto the window drive pulley and then removed the motor from the door. I then lowered the window by hand by pulling it down from the bottom until I could punch out the two rivets holding the window to the regulator and also drilled them out with the 1/4" drill bit. The furthest forward rivet was not fun but could be reached through a nickel sized hole in the door panel. Then I shimmied and moved the window around until I could pull it out of the door through the top. I had to remove the inside weather strip by prying it up and then had to fight and fight to get the window/regulator bracket up past the top pulley on the regulator but it finally came out. I then punched out the two rivets at the bottom of the regulator and took off the two nuts at the top of the regulator. I then took the 1/4" drill bit and drilled out those two rivets at the bottom. I took out the regulator, slid in the new one and put the top nuts back on loosely. I used 3/4" long 1/4 bolts with a washer on each side and a lock washer and nut on the inside of the door to replace the rivets I removed. I then just reversed my removal process, making sure I had the window in it's proper guide track. I also lubed the regulator track with liberally with lithium grease. There wasn't much to it once I figured out how to get at the two rivets holding the window to the regulator and then getting the window out of the door. I'm not positive the window had to come out but I couldn't find a way to get the bolt studs at the top of the regulator out with the window in the door. I was also worried about breaking the window glass as I fumbled around. It took me about two hours of fairly leisurely work to finish this project.

You have to replace your window regulator. to do this you have to remove the 7 rivets holding the regulator, the window motor and window. first, take a punch and pop the centers out of rivets. then drill them out. this will allow you to remove old parts. then reverse the process. you will need special rivets from Ford and a large rivet gun.

  3. Remove the door trim panel and watershield.

I want to remove passenger side rear door panel because window is down and won't stay up

Hi,
Hi!!

Here is a little information on how window regulator works. Also step by step instruccions on how to remove and install the window glass.

Door Glass & Regulator Power Windows
Diagnosis & Testing
When the rear window lockout feature is enabled, the circuit is open and no voltage is supplied to the rear window switches. When the feature is not enabled, the circuit is connected to battery positive voltage. If this circuit is shorted to ground when the lockout feature is not enabled, the PWR WDO circuit breaker may cycle continuously OFF/ON until, either the lockout switch is pressed to open the circuit, or the circuit breaker is permanently damaged. All windows may be partially or totally inoperative while the fault is present.
Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the system. Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom. Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions.

You'll need to buy a new motor and regulator. You can go used or new, it's up to you. The regulator will include the cable.

- Remove the interior door trim,
- Disconnect the power cable from the window motor,
- Remove the window bump-stops (one at the front, one back),
- Remove the glass window from the regulator (two bolts),
- Slide the glass window out of the top of the door,
- Remove 3 nuts from the window motor,
- Remove all window regulator bolts,
- Slide the motor & regulator assembly out the top of the door.

- Mount your new motor to your new regulator,
- Install the new motor & regulator assembly in the reverse order.
