OIL LEAKING FROM FRONT AXLE - Escape Ford Cars & Trucks

I just took my car to have the oil changed and was informed that there is "fluid" coming out of the right side of the axle/transmission area. I was advised to take this back to the dealer immediately as this would cause serious damage to my transmission. It is now 36,420 miles and I didn't purchase (like a dummy) the exteded warranty. I think that I've hung myself! I am taking the car this afternoon to the dealership...and crossing my fingers that they will repair this...as good faith, if any thing. I am also hoping that it's a seal...but don't know this for sure yet. But still, should this be happening this soon?

HELP! Any advice someone could give me?

Have a check on the seals and see if they need replacing.

Just had axle oil leak, left front, had axle replaced, could this have been prevented or is it natural wear and tear?

Hi Dolores ! by replacing the axle shaft have you changed also the oil seal on the gear box or not? If not surely is the old oil seal and is leaking.

Will a leaking axle seal cause the engine oil level to drope ?

No the two systems don't have anything to do with each other and use compeletly differant oils .How ever what you should check for is a leak from the engine because when your driveing engine oil gets blown back to the rear and may look like its leaking from the axle when the oil is realy comeing from the engine .Check your engine oil make sure its up to the correct level also check the PCV valve thats posivite crankcase ventalation . The next time you drive it when you get home take a peice of cardboard and slide it under the engine from the front .If the engine has blowen a gasket this will give you an idea of where the oil is comeing from . But the rear axle seal has nothing to do with your engine oil pressure . Good luck with it

Just bought last week have an oil leak in driveway the oil is light brown in color what could it be..

oil cooler lines, transmission pan, power steering leaking or axle seals. All are pretty common.

IF you open up the access cover for the oil filter you will see the cooler lines. If they are wet with oil you found the first leak.

The trans pan will be wet if the gasket is leaking

the front axle seal will be wet right where the axles go in the front end.

The power steering pump, lines, gear box will be wet if they are leaking.

Leaking Axle

IThis car im not sure if it is front wheel drive or not. Assume it is then it could get expensive. If it is just rear wheel drive then its just packing bearings with grease, no big deal.

Front axel oil leak

High pressure wash the entire area and engine, including the strut or shock area. Depending on how long it takes to leak, look at the axle at night with a flashlight as you can see shinny liquid easy at night, but you will see it in the day also if the leaking is prominant.

You might have a leaky strut or shock that is running down on the axle and I am hoping the mechanic took you for a ride,
