Where could I find the specs for a GM crankshaft casting number 6223

All BBC # 7114 cranks were crossdrilled & tufftrided from the factory & only installed in original L/88 & ZL/1 427 engines. All GM BBC #6223 cranks that were factory crossdrilled are tufftrided, whether 396 or 427, they came in SPEC HI PERF solid lifter engines only from the factory. I believe the 6223 crank was primarily used for 396 applications and has a 3/4" thick front counterweight. If the crank is a dull gray color and the mains have been cross drilled (a hole from one side of the main to the other), it would have been used in high performance solid lifter applications. Cranks used in 427 engines use a thicker (7/8") front counterweight to balance the heavier pistons and are forging #71XX. On a non cross drilled crank, the #1 and #5 mains will have only one hole, cross drilled versions will have two.

This is all the info I could find at the moment, but I will ask a friend of mine who is a mechanic at the Chevy dealer here and maybe I can help out further. If I find any more info on this, I will post back immediately following. I hope this will help in the meantime.

The sizes of wenches and sockets or any special tools required to pull the starter off of a 84 mercury grand marquis v.8

Hi Troy:
Sounds as if you need the help of a buddy with a tool kit and some experience. It's a great learning experience.

May I suggest that before you start taking things apart, you get that experienced friend to assist in making sure that you have identified the problem that needs repair.

never post emails , you will now get 10,000 spam a day, wow.
sorry !
it can be easy or hard, but in general its:
just the barrel tumbler, ?, that is locked on back side on purpose.
pull battery neg lug. (no fires please) or blown main fuses.
defeat air bags , via method stated in FSM. (DANGER big time)
1: remove covers from switch section, there, screws below.
2: remove headless antitamper screws on ignition switch clamp
3: the whole assemby is free.
4: on 1/2 the cars the steering wheel needs to be remove, painfull that.
disconnect its connector now or at step 1.5.

the tumbler pin is on back side, ask any lock smith to fix this.
he has the special tools needed.

427 runs hot

What size stat do you have in the car as 220 is not a high temp most small blocks will run 220 to 235. I guess you could change the stat it might be sticking some. The other thing to look for is does the system have an air lock, is it knocking when at operating temp. What temp is the fans kicking on at, they maybe turning on late. Hope this helps.

I own a E1800 van. I have problems with acceleration or power to climb hills or steep driveways. Pls assist.

Check the throttle cable is pulling the throttle all the way open....if okay....

Possible blocked exhaust system...usually the catalytic converter. Remove the Oxygen Sensor and road test....if quicker, you found the problem.

...or go to a shop and ask fro a back pressure test. They will install a probe and gauge in the exhaust and run engine at 2000 to 2500 rpm and briefly to WOT.

Any reading over 2 psi indicates a partially blocked muffler system.

Online wireing digram

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

I have very limited exposure to 427s since they are not that readily available in my country. At most that I have worked on (longtime before) are the rat motors with dual (2 barrel) carbs and uses conventional (then) contact points which if you are using, I could very well prepare a wiring diagram. If however, you have a highly modified later day version with EFIs and multi sensor, then I am afraid I would be at a lost and would be of no help to you.

I have taken the liberty of asking the assistance of other members of the community to assist you further if not better.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
