Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Interior lights flash on and off while driving, Alarm goes off for no reason, gauges go to 0 then return to normal and back hatch door seems not to shut properly.
You may want to have the wiring harness inspected. A major section under the fuse box(hood on 96 GC 4.0) may become chafed by a close proximity AC gas hose connector. My mechanic said it was slowly chewing at the harness. It caused me fuel pump problems, but your intermittant problem could be similar.

The plunge switches in the doors are not staying completely open (door
closed) Also there may be a corroded ground connection as well as corrosion in the switches.
