Had the same problem. It started out shifting hard from gear to gear and then started to slip as I went up hill or heavy acceleration. Didn't need a new transmission. The sensor in the transmission had gone bad. Replaced the sensor and 60,000 miles later still going strong. Costs about $750 to $800 to replace the sensor in the transmission.
Good luck!

What can cause a gear shift lever to move but not go into the gears on a 95 Lincoln Town car

The linkage may have become worn out, disconnected or bent.

The linkage consists of the parts that physically connect the gear shift (on the steering column) to the transmission itself. This is a fair distance so it is very possible that over the years wear or damage has caused it to no longer function the way you might expect. Sometimes, you can even feel that there is nothing connected to the gear shift. Look under the car to see if you see anything hanging down, etc. You may need to have the vehicle towed to be repaired if unable to shift out and into park. Linkage repairs are *far* less costly than transmission repairs. Good luck!

No gears work acts like its in neutral

Your transmission is worn out Bands are burnt and probably needs a rebuild or replacement. Not much doubt about it.Sorry bud its dead. Was it a transmission flush you had? With a filter change? What made you decide it was time to have ****** fluid changed? Starting to slip a little, hesitating when starting out, was probably going out before you took it in.

2001 Dodge ram -2500 automatic. transmission slow to engage, months later started not shifting into 3rd gear, then 1 months later slow to engage into 2nd , now only 1st gear......

sounds like filter could be clogged, if it hasn't been changed in a while. you can try to replace throttle position sencer, it is like your old trans kinkenge system, only now, it is elect. it tells trans when to shift, like your speed sencer on trans doe's. both can make it act like it is.

If I'm undersatanding you correctly this could be a shift solenoid. I would take it to an ASE certified transmission shop. This repair is beyond a DIYer.

Transmission not shifting gears in drive at freewill

There is a vaccum modulator on the front of the transmission. It has a single vaccum line going to it and is held in place with one bolt. This part controls your up and down shift. Its a 20.00 part. Try replacing it first. If that dosent do it then you will need a rebuild or replacment.

I have had my tiburon less than a year but about a month ago the transmission started to act weird. At first it began shifting between i think third and fourth gear which made the rpms go higher than they...

the trans computer has seen a problem possible a bad sensor, or an internal problem, and puts it into a safe mode, or limp home mode , it wont shift , it will stay in 3rd gear, this way this reduces the possibility of further damage trans damage, when you turn the ignition off and back on it resets the tcm, my advice is to take it to your local dealer, they can diag your trans as they know the product, i dont advise pep boys, or discount auto parts.

Truck wont move when put in gear ,problem started

Be Sure the Fluid Level is TRUE to FULL, And if there has Been a LOT of MILES BETWEEN Services this Could be the Problem, I Have Seen this Many Many times, Where A Trans. Was Serviced and they Iether QUIT Pulling All Together, of Shifted Wild. After a Certain Point (With DIRTY FLUID) where the DIRT itself Played a Role in Keeping the Trans. Working fine. The Dirt Acts as a Sealer/SPACE Occupier. Sounds Wild But TRUE.

Transmission quit all gears

problem is mechanical not electrical. with all connections disconnected transmission should still move fwd and rev. poss pump or pressure regulator. check to see if fluid level drops once vehicle is started (indicates pump is working).
