Question about 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera
Car will shift into gear but won't move .i'm not sure where the converter is in the car how easy of a fix is it?
Well to replace the TC, you have to unbolt the transmissions bell housing from the rear of the engine. Then, it's rather simple from there on in. I'd suggest a full manual for the car so you could know what you're looking at.
Either way, without a good selection of tools, and the right spot to work on it, it's probably better just to have a mechanic look at it.
As for the TC actually going out, it's not highly likely that it would. You may just have a really clogged fluid filter and be in desperate need of a transmission flush/change. Also, the valves may be bad as well, which still isn't much of a hassle to replace if you know what you're doing. I've seen hundreds of automatic transmissions go out in my life, but only a few have ever been a direct result of the TC.
