Make sure the Battery cable is very tight,if loose then the car will do nothing (no lights, no turn over, no clicking). Also make sure it is grounded properly with no rust, etc.

2005 ford territory neww battery wont start. No crank sound just click

G'day

"Territory" means non-USA market?
(AU, NZ)

(Sorry I'm in the San Francisco, Cali area
(we haven't even started your yesterday)).

The click is the sound of the solenoid (big click?)

located on the starter... you can tell it is the main connection after the battery post on the positive side... If cleaning does not
work... checking the fluid levels & charging the battery (yes, I got the new part) ... then consider getting into testing THAT SOLENOID... (by shorting across those big terminals on the starter... If the vehicle is in gear EXPECT it to TRY to DRIVE THROUGH where-ever it is pointed...!!

aaand ...
don't expect the terminals or shorting device look as pretty as they did before they were ABUSED.

Else
the STARTER MOTOR is most likely at fault
(but again... check that GROUND first (at the starter).

The cheapest and best start is to inspect & clean the battery terminals (both ends of each). Always remove the GROUND side connection FIRST... and always put that GROUND terminal together LAST.

THE reason is purely SAFETY... If you are using a regular wrench (rather than a FULLY INSULATED BATTERY WRENCH) every possible contact with the POSITIVE side of the battery has EXPLOSIVE consequences.

Gloves & eyewear (goggles) are always recommended.

You should always have baking soda & PLENTY of fresh water IMMEDIATELY available in case you become contaminated.

Ideally using anti oxidant battery washers BEFORE final connection of those battery terminals.

Where do you add automatic transmission fluid in 2000 ford futura au

in a plug on the side of the gearbox under the car (16mm),running in "D" with the engine running at 1000 rpm with the box warm but not hot, pump it in until it runs out of the plug, a pit, hoist or solid ramps will be needed for this as well as 2 people

I can hear the fuel pump running, lights are on, but won't start the car.

First make sure you have good battery connections. A poor connection will give enough power to turn on head lights but not turn on starter motor. Clean the connections and ensure they are tightened.

If connections are good, check voltage of battery. It should be at least 12 volts.

If battery voltage is low, either charge the battery, or attempt to jump start the car (red to positive terminals, black to negative terminals; attached positive first, prefer to attach negative terminal to a good metal location other than the negative terminal on the battery).

If the starter motor is visible, try tapping lightly with a mallet to free it up. This may or may not work depending on the problem. If the car starts, replace the starter motor anyway or it will strand you again.

Most cars have a starter relay and a fuse for the ignition. Do a Google search on the internet for your model of car, or look in your owners manual to find the location of the solenoid and/or fuse. Replace the fuse if it's burned out. Note that a shorted starter motor could cause the fuse to burn out, so replacing the fuse may not fix the problem. Suspect a shorted starter motor or wire if the fuse burns out again. You may need some professional assistance at this point to check the solenoid.

If the solenoid is bad, it is usually replaced along with the starter. Remove starter motor/solenoid and take to an Autozone or Oreilly or equivalent and have them check its functionality. Be sure to disconnect the battery's negative terminal before removing the starter motor.

If the starter is good, then your problem is likely either your car's security system (check if security light is flashing if you have such) or check the ignition switch. If you have a mechanic friend, see if he can bypass the ignition switch and get the starter motor to turn over.

Poor electrical connections or a bad battery or a bad starter motor/solenoid are the most likely culprits.

I have a 2000 chevy malibu ls. at first..we just thought that the battery needed charged..so we bought a new battery.. then it still wouldnt start..so we bought a new starter and replaced that..and it...

DO you hear a clicking when you turn the key to start? Solenoid relay make a click sound when energized.
If the solenoid is not mounted on the starter motor then it will be near the battery
The key switch sends power to the solenoid. the solenid is a big remote controlled switch, and it takes power from the battery to the starter motor

Have bought new battery for 2000 hyundai sonata, still wont crank engine. What could be the problem?

I assume your motor crankshaft is not 'seized' or otherwise locked up.

Check your battery terminals are clean and firmly attached,
Check battery ground connection is securely connected to the chassis and the motor/chassis ground connection is intact.
Check for 'click' sound as starter solenoid is engaged when Ignition sw set to 'start' position.
If no noise from starter motor, and +12v applied to the starter engage solenoid terminal, then the starter motor may be faulty.

Also check to see if there is power in the start wire form the ignition switch, the wire is a white wire with pink stripe, most likely not a common problem, but still something that could go wrong. this wire will feed the starter relay under the hood...
