Question about 1992 Cadillac DeVille

Heater Core Replacement

I got my 86 Fleetwood giving me like NO heat. At -40 this is beginning to bug me. My question is where does the heater core come out from, the dash or the firewall? I am sure this is the problem as when I start the car the windows are icing up on the inside till the car warms. Any suggestions as to anything else that will cause this would be appreciated. This is a 4.1. heater core replacement

First locate the hoses on the firewall that go to the heater core. lucky scenerio is that there is an a panel you can remove to take out the heater core.. you will see it.... second option is that the venting is split and either held on by clips or screws.... remove them... pull down the half of the vent housing and pull it out that way.... worst case scenario... mostly with ford products is that you have to remove the dash to change it....

95 Fleetwood Cadillac no heat changed water pump and thermostat. The heater core is not bypassed and car stays defrosted help me see why no heat is blowing out. The fan works but no heat

Sounds like a air lock in interior heater core, remove one heater hose under hood and make sure you have flow through heater core. Some vehicles have a valve that controls coolant flow through heater, check on hose for that if no coolant comming out of inter heater hoses.

1995 Cadillac Fleetwood not getting any heat.

is your car running at normal temperatures? possibly bad heater core. the flaps that direct the air flow in the vents may not be working properly. and has it always had this problem you may want to see if someone has bypassed the heater core there are two coolant lines going into your firewall right next to each other. sometimes when the heater core goes bad people will do this to get by but if youve had heat before than this off course would not be the problem

Need to replace the heater core

Inspect/Replace If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

Coolant smell inside cab when you turn on car/heat

Likely you are in the beginning stage of a heater core leak. at this point, you may be able to temporarily solve the problem by using a good system sealer (I'm partial to the kind that comes as a silver powder) Since we don't actually know the condition of the core, temporary may mean a week or several years, but replacement is expensive and time consuming so I'd definitely give it a try.
