When i press the gas or turn a car cuts off and the stiring wheel locks up whn i press the gass it makes a weird nose then shuts off can someone please help me 2008 impala

It's hard to say with so many possible things it could be. It sounds like it is more or less stationary now, unless you can drive a straight line around your block. The engine cutting off is something electrical, probably fuel or spark (ignition) related. The steering wheel would immediately lose power steering when the engine stops, but it shouldn't lock. That would be a key cylinder and ignition switch problem. If the key is still on, it should not "lock" the steering wheel.

I believe you should let a competent mechanic diagnose it, beginning with some basic voltage tests, and progressing to a scanning tool to actually watch live streaming data in and out of the engine computer, or powertrain control module-PCM. Two things I would do even before taking it to a shop or mechanic is to have the fuel pressure checked and have the pcm scanned for possible trouble codes. Actual codes or pending codes could indicate where to start looking. And a fuel pressure test tells you if fuel at the correct pressure is getting to the engine, to the injectors there. I know Autozone will do the scans for free, and I think you can get a free fuel pressure test there under their loan-a-tool program. You may know a friend or relative with a fuel pressure gauge, maybe even a scanner or code reader-all the better! Good luck.

1998 honda won't rev up past 4,000 rpm

All cars made after 1996 were built with rev limiters built into the onboard computer, to limit engine overrunning.

I had a new alternator put on and ever since while i'm stopped & or parking my car is idlding and acts like its going to cut off. is that timing it didnt start till after put on alternator

Hi Cindy, need to check and see if the belt is turning tightly, they may have not done it,to check, open hood, start engine, leave in park,go to engine, find accelerator cable and rev up gas and see if belts are turning tightly,or have someone rev gas in car and someone watch. Also look around engine to see if they let something out of place, you never know these days, even at dealers.

My Daeoo Leganza will not start after driving for about 10 miles it cut off. All the lights come on and even the radio but it will not turn over to start.

Dear Brian Flowers,

Have you had the cars' immobilizer checked? Might well be worth getting someone to check that over, and also get the engine managment system checked. Something amiss with overheating or any other safety issue can cause a car to "quit", also it makes stealing your car a lot harder too.

I would like you to check the fuse box for me, and let e know what your findings are.

yours sincerely

Turn ignition car starts and then immediately turns off again

Please ask a local mechanic to have a look as this sort of fault is not uncommon and could be the ignition key chip so try spare key ,a faulty ECU or even something simple like a mass air flow sensor or a blocked catalytic exhaust so its favourite to ask a local man then post what he says for verification

Ferrari 360 will not rev above about 1500 rpm. Cold weather around 40 degrees F, but even after the car idled for 10 minutes warmed up to 200 degrees F engine temp the car would not rev above 1500. When...

without my greasy hands under the bonnet its hard to say but dont be scared of it just because it say ferrari on the front its still made by fiat and uses a lot of common parts ,now what i would do here is to test the mass air flow sensor with my automotive tester to see what happening and if the voltage is varying as it reved up before i start to even think about changing anything ,if this sensor is faulty then its not measuring the right air flow which will not allow petrol to be injected through the injectors hence its not picking up and i think it may be the cold weather thats affecting the sensor in some way ,remember warming up the engine will not make the sensor warm as it still has cold air being drawn in through the inlet pipe

The truck doesnt want to idle

check and see if your air inlet tube has a crack or hole in it between the throttle body and the mass air flow sensor

Many cars these days are equipped with an immobilizer. (you can find more information about the immobilizer in your owner's manual). The immobilizer allows the engine to run only if the correct key is used. If your car has an immobilizer, you probable see a "Security" or Key-shaped light coming on on the dashboard every time you turn the ignition ON. If this light is flashing when you turn the ignition ON, it could mean that there is some problem with an immobilizer or the system does not recognize the key. If the immobilizer doesn't recognize the key, the engine wold not start at all, or would start and then die in few seconds.
You can try a spare key, if it won't work, your dealer is the place to call. Sometimes, the key is just need to be reprogrammed. On some cars you can find the information how to reprogram the key in the owner's manual...

Your car uses a transonder key, a key with a small chip embedded inside. The transponder is matched to the immobilizer unit in your car. When the key is inserted into the ignition, the immobilizer searches for that transponder, if it's not near the ignition, the car will just keep turning over and not start. Your only real options are to replace the steering lock or buy a transponder bypass unit, which I do not recommend. Just do a google search.
