Question about Chevrolet Lumina

1 Answer

I have a 1991 Chevy Lumina Euro with about 185,000 miles that I purchased about 2 1/2 years ago. It is now running rough and is lacking in power. It blows a lot of smoke especially when I clim a hill and uses about a quart of oil a week. When at idle at a stoplight sometimes there is a pinging noise but reved up to 1,500 rpm the noise stops. The plugs and wires were replaced about 6 months ago. Could it be a timing belt has stretched and slipped? What could I expect to pay to replace the belt?

Doubt that it is the timing belt. sounds like your piston rings are starting to go. I could be wrong. best thing to is check the timing first. if it is in time pull the oil dip stick and smell it to see if it is burning

It could be, but you had a mechanic working on it right? Ignition control box? does it run better now?
where is the smoke coming from, exhaust pipe or under the hood? Did the mechanic check the fuel pressure and replace the fuel filter? Did they check for vacuum leaks? These should be the first thing they need to check.

My 1991 chevy lumina has no power when i put my foot into it and it's running rough like it wants to stall. Could this be the coil pack?

could be a few thing , have it put on a real time scanner, not a code reader, blue streak makes a good one, have someone monitor the engine activators and sensors, also hook up a furl pressure guage to monitor

'93 chevy lumina euro dies when given gas

Is yourd check engine light on? If it is, I would have the codes read first thing. If not, it could be clogged fuel filter or air filter, loose vacuum hose, or bad throttle position sensor or other sensor but the sensors or any electrical problem will set off check engine light.
