Question about 1997 Jaguar Xj Series

1 Answer

Front End Grinding

I have a 1997 Jaguar Vanden Plas that is currently driving me crazy. I just spent over 1,500 dollars replacing sensors. A few days ago I was driving on the highway and noticed the car shaking like crazy at 60 mph and then at 35 mph for about 20 minutes then it was riding smooth again for 30 minutes then it started shaking again. Now that problem has gone away and now I notice grinding when I come to a stop. But it doesn't happen all the time. Unfortunately, the Jag auto shops near me, love to take advantage. I need some helpful hints on what it could be. Someone please help me!

2004 Jaguar, Vaden Plaus, car just quit running going down the road. Had to have it towed home Won't start, turns over, just won't start, says Restricted Performance.

Sounds like it is some type of 'limp home' mode.
It could be anything. It might be as simple as a bad Fuel Pump Relay. When you turn the Key to the ON position (not Start) can you hear a little buzz for about 1 second? That would be your fuel pump running. You need to see if the engine is getting gas and spark.

check your idle control sensor, also have you checked your timing, and your plugs. I had a car that had a small miss. I spent lots of money replacing and tracking just to find a plug that wasn't gapped correctly. Also no visible leaks does not mean no leaks. a pin whole could cause this. Check your mass air flow, and clean it while your doing this. Also check your throtle body sensor. Pull the throtle body its usually 4 bolts. Clean it out real good and put it back on.

let me know if this helps.

Leaking valve covers, 2000 jaguar vanden plas supercharged

no there is'nt enough pressure underneath to make it leak try tighting up the valve cover bolts or just getting a new gasket about a $6.00 to $10.00 dollar fix depending on where you go
