Question about 1988 Ford F 150

88 f-150 radio

Hey guys this is a crazy question but I just bought this truck and it seems to only have an am radio! now im a pretty young guy and i was wondering is it actually just an am radio? or have i just not found out how to change it to fm? i feel like i have examined it and pressed every button possible so i guess my question really is DID they sell the trucks with an am only radio? cause it is factory everything and not an aftermarket radio.

Thanks,

So if I wanted to install a new radio with say fm and a cd player or something how would i go about doing that? Can i grab any radio and just throw it in there? I am pretty electronically/mechanically inclined. Does the factory radio have some special way of being extracted?

Get an adapter harness from a local car audio shop and use the correct size radio (DIN standard) and you can put anything in you want in, with the adapter harness you won't have to cut any wires.

Yes they did sell trucks with only am radios. What is most amazing is that it is still in the truck. Most people changed them out. I guess the previous owner did not ever listen to it. The question I have is how did you know I would be able to answer this question?

There are plenty of Audio/electronics repair guys around. All the dealer will do is sell you a new player. Ask friends and perhaps the guys at radio shack if they know anyone who can repair a printed circuit board. The RS guys are usually pretty nerdy. Good luck.

Sure you can use old everything but whats the jeporty if it breaks down? Your young daughter walking home late at night? Or your tough guy just going home with all your buddies that just got off too and they'll help you out? Fix it right if you ned to trust it, Or just throw it away when the motorblows from sudden overheating. sure it may run a long time, long as your young daughter isn't left out on the raod at night.

This is an idea not a for sure. Bad or worn valves can cause what you describe. Had something similar happen to an 2004 Toyota. Due to bad lubrication, crazy huh?

You probably have a faulty sensor at the transmission.

Go to your local parts store, and they can give you the part and how to install it. It's pretty easy.
