The starter is located on the passenger side lower motor. it has two bolts in it that hold it in place. it actually goes through a hole/slot in the transmission to the flex plate.

1st. disconnect the negative cable on the battery.
2nd. raise the vehicle safely and place a jack stand under the vehicle out of your way but near where you will be working(for safety).
3rd. remove the two bolts that hold the starter in place.
4th. remove the wires from the back of the starter.
5th. install in reverse order of above.

note: there may be little plates between the starter and the mounting points called shims. if there are then make sure you put them back.

I did this job last night. It is unbelievable how tight the opening is compared to the size of the starter. I rolled it around and around for about 15 minutes, and it surprisingly did come out. It was almost equally as difficult to get the new one back in, but it does go. FYI, the wires are short, and you have to remove them before you pull the starter out, which is no easy task in itself.

What would cause 1999 Chevy Blazer to shut down once it reaches a certain temperature? It will turn over but won't fire off. Computer said it was Temperature Sensor Sending Unit. Replaced it and still same...

The engine has an automatic shut down if it reaches a certain temperature to protect the engine. Possibly it could need a new thermostat for less than $20. It is possible the thermostat is stuck in the closed position not allowing fluid to circulate throughout the engine. Try it and see. Cheaper than a mechanic to replace it for you.

1999 Chevy Blazer Engine will not crank over. All

try turning the key over to the start position. then take a long screwdriver and touch it across the terminals on the starter. this should start your vehicle. if the sarter doesnt turn when you do this, then you have the starter locked up,and yo will have to take it off and install some shims under the bolts.if the starter is trying to turn and the lywheel isnt urning...then you have a locked up engine.

The starter relay is in the engine compartment close to the battery. Its a black or gray box 4" x 4" and may say relays or nothing at all. Lift the cover and get owners manual for exact location inside the box.
