Question about 1995 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

No spark periodically

My park ave with 190,000 seems to be tempermental. Every so often I shut her down and about 20 min. later it won't start because of no spark. Have changed the complete coil setup and the ign. control computer but still does same thing. let set for 30 minutes and zoom it starts right up. It happens about once a week. Next avenue of repair info would be greatly appreciated

There is a relay compartment under the hood the fuses are marked but not the relays- there are also some fuses and relays under the glove box also not marked for the relays. I did have a diagnostics done on the vehicle and it came up just as "no spark", there are no lights on in the dash signaling any trouble.

Are there any relays on the vehicle that pertain to ignition ?. replace it if there is. I suspect the relay will be located in a compartment close to the battery. it's covered but should be obvious. when you take off the lid there should be a sticker under the lid that tells you which fuses/relays are which.
any lights come on the dash and have you had it scanned for codes ?

Call your local GM dealer or better yet go to the parts dept and ask them if they would copy the relay/fuse panel locations out of service book or at least tell you which is the ignition relay. failing that the public library.... search chilton or haynes

Engine shuts off after driving 45 min when parking in reverse. But 15 min before this engine and slippery road icon comes on.2 hrs later car starts and drives normal then shuts off again 45 min later.

most commonly found problem relates to an electronic component heating up and shutting down. Have you checked to confirm there is fuel pressure when the vehicle shuts off. Is the check engine light on. Have you checked codes ? I suggest hooking up a fuel pressure gauge and letting vehicle run till it shuts off while monitoring the fuel pressure. If you loose fuel pressure, next step is to confirm there power going to the pump, if there is power going to the pump with no fuel pressure replace pump. Another suggestion would be to check for spark when vehicle stops running to eliminate an ignition problem. good luck

3.8 litre park ave seems to crank right up but spits and shuts off immediately. If I continuallypumpthe gas,it seems to 'catch up and rev up vety high. When I stop pumping,it spits and shuts off.

Is the check engine light on while the engine is running ?
If it is I would start there for clues.
If not, the list of possibilities is long.
You should check the fuel pressure and probably the throttle position sensor resistance. It could have a vac leak too.

Will crank sensor cause the car to kill when it gets normal operating temp and then 20 or 30 min later start up again

Check the ignition module and coils alot of times the module went its going out will do that. When it gets warm the car will shut off and sometimes it will start back up and sometimes it won't.

1986 Toyota 4wd pickup: problem starting

in my experience alot of times what happens when ignition systems get hot from running for a period of time the ignition coil breaks down and weakens when old and worn out then let it cool down for awhile then starts right back up. so look into checking into the coil break down for loss of spark

Sometimes when a fuel filter is stopped up,and you change it,the fuel pump later, will go out, cause of the strain on the pump.

My 1993 Buick Le Sabre idles crazy and it stalls randomly. Sometimes it will start right back up and sometimes it takes 20 min, 2 hours, or sometimes 2 days. It was my moms before it was mine and she...

does it start up and die again real quick and can you keep it going with your foot on the gas. if it does and you can it is probably the idle air control valve or the throttle position sensor. if it doesn't and it just turns over try the ignition control module. my 94 park ave did something similar but it shut down and wouldn't start back period and then i cleaned the chip on the key and it fired right up.

After 20 miles or so the car overheats and shuts off but once it cools down its fine again

The ignition module in located in the distributor under the cap. Might contribute to the stalling ,control spark to spark plugs, timming advance etc, but has no bearing on overheating. Hope this helps.

1987 ford crown victoria shuts down after 20 mins

I would check for spark when it happens. If no spark you probably have a thick film ignition module / profile ignition pickup issue. Replace both pieces if your going to do the job. It'll save you a headache later on down the road.

2000 caravan 3.0 stall after 20 min no spark restarts few hours later

This sounds like a bad (probably cracked) ignition coil.

First, the coil gets hot when operating, and this is normal.

If it is cracked, it gets hot to the point where its resistance gets so much higher that it cannot provide enough voltage for spark.

When it cools back down it starts working fine again.
