Engine Warning light on rover 75

3 days after buying, engine fault light lit up but book said continue to drive as did mechanic from garage. after 250 miles water was lost from engine. car was repaired under warranty with new cylinder head , water pump.thermostat. 2 months later fault came on and engine overheated and again lot 2 litres water. refilled light went off and car worked for 4 days when light came on again. car under waranty but mechanic says need new half engine as waranty will not cover this known problem which can even occur within 1 hour of repair. no water from exhaust, no miss firing, engine works perfectly so does rad cooling fan. car has two year purchased warranty.

The coolant leaked from what looked to be the water pump housing, The garage had it for 3 weeks repairing it as above. The engine is 1.8 petrol I dont know the code at the time I did not enquire. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne and have now had the car for 6 months. Took it back to the Garage today and the mechanic said if it was the same problem as last time which I was lead to believe was under their waranty. then my £200 paid for at time of purchase waranty would not cover for a second time as it was fixed under this waranty in the first instance. non theless he put it on the computor and advised that the code was not recognised by the code book being a random code it is probably either a glitch or something minor but if it occurs again he advised me to bring it in for a further check and i might have to pay for any further work as the waranty company who is also his employer will not recognise the claim. The light is now off and again all is running well but I feel that it wont last.

The car is running free of the poblem as the mechanic predicted but I fear to use it on a long journey because this is when I have experienced the problem. I t might have been a glitch but only time will tell. The garage who fixed the car is not the company who sold it. that company was part of a multiple franchise on the same site as the repairers and they went out of business 1 week after selling the car. There is no sign of them at the sales site.

I guess I will need a clarification, first of all there is nothing that controls coolant being dumped from the system, The coolant system is just that a system, a closed system with the main objective of keeping the engine cool, and keeping the occupants warm in the winter months. What year is it, and what engine. Also what fault code PXXXX? Came up 3 days after buying it? WHere do you live, and how long have you had the car total?

Hi after reading your problem i gather the water pump blew you lost water the car overheated you say it had a brand new cylinder head and the cars still losing water and causing it to overheat and the garage say its the same problem as before yet they won,t do the job because it needs a bottom end ;engine block] so why when they had the head off was this not checked for level and signs of cracking . to be fair to the garage it something that is often overlooked . but that said if this is the problem that occured after three days of buying you are entitled to have the work gaurenteed for 12 months unless otherwise stated i can see there warrenty company won,t want to pay for it as they already paid the garage to do the job [CORRECTLY] the garage had no right to sell a faulty car in the first place and secondly they have been paid by your warrenty company to repair it it is not the warrentys companys fault the garage didnt do what was required in the first place but its not yours either so i would read what your warrenty agreement is and see if it states they won,t pay twice for the same job if not phone them up tell them the only reason you bought the car is because of the warrenty and it is not your fault the job was done properly in the first place and expect the car to be repaired as it should have been in the first place and its up to them and the garage to decide which one of them pays tell them what the garage mechanic said about its allright to drive and i have no idea what book tells you to ignore warning lights but should be shot then go to the garage tell them you want it putting right and you don,t care wheather its under warrenty or the garages oblgation not sell defective vechicles it is up to the garage to put it right or give you your money back if the problem arises within a reasonable amount of time usually seven days tell them to put it in writing if they refuse to do the job if they refuse get a wittness to this and tell them it needs puting right and will be taking to another garage getting it repaired and am giving you the first chance to repair it as stated in law then the bill will forwarded to them an have you took finance out on it or did you pay cash if finance phone them up tell them the problems your having and are going to stop payments until the car is fixed REMEMBER THE GARAGE DEPENDS ON THE FINANCE AND WARRENTY COMPANYS THEY WILL NOT WANT TROUBLE FROM THEM BECAUSE THEY WITH DRAW THERE BACKING THE GARAGE WON,T SELL THER CARS HENCE OUT OF WORK i bet your a newcastle supporter as well with this kind of luck if you let them get away with it your as daft as a brush find out where to report the garage i think it is the office of fair trading and if they won,t bend i will be amazed yates210456

You need a diagnostic scan to find a fault code to help with repair. Good local garage can help...most likely an abs / sensor fault.

What does an engine indicator lamp means?

The check engine light could indicate many different faults! The only way to be sure is to get the fault codes read! This will indicate where the fault is! If you do not have a code reader then take it to a garage to have this done!

Drriving slower than 45 mph engine light comes on

Without error code it is hard to tell what the actual problem is? So, get your ride check for error code, any auto shop will do this free of cost. After getting error code, update your answer so that you can get the correct solution. Also you mentioned that Engine cylinder 6 is skipping strokes; the reason for the cause can be:

1. Faulty Spark Plugs

2. Damaged plug wiring

3. Faulty Distributor

4. Damaged Ignition coil

Engine management Light came up on my Honda Civic 1.6 SE Petrol for 2-3 days. Did not get an appointment at any garage... so did not get it scanned for any code. But since the last week, this has gone...

Hi,

The Check Engine light will illuminate if your OBD computer has detected a malfunction in one of the critical circuits. The fault codes are stored in your PCM's memory.

However, if this same fault does not re-ocurr after several drive cycles, often the PCM will assume the fault has recitified itself and will therefore turn off the Check Engine light. The fault code is usually retained in memory for future reference.

It is not necessary to take your vehicle to a mechanic, unless your Check Engine light remains illuminated.

Hope this helps.....

Land rover 2003 check engine light on. Drive cycle needed

Clear the codes per factory specs, you must drive the car for at least a week normal driving in order for the computer to reset itself to have all sensors in ready mode to be scanned for emissions testing or it will fail emissions due to the computer sensors showing NOT READY MODE, which the mechanic may not tell you about in order to sell you services you don't need.

Check engine light blinks

My suggestion is to get the fault codes stored in the car's ecu read by a VW approved garage. That will tell them what "was" wrong. Once a fault has occurred the check engine light will probably stay on until the warning has been cancelled using VW software.
As for the grade of gas used in the car, the users manual will tell you that - it might also be written inside the filler cap.

I wouldn't recommend further use of "engine cleaner" - it might do more harm than good.

Go get the codes read and then you'll know for sure.

Hope this helps. D
