Question about 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix

No heat engine gets warm and cooling system has good pressure. both the water pump and t-stat are new and installed correctly. The blower motor opperates correctly as well as the ventalation system. Both hoses going to the heater core get warm and also have good pressure .

    No heat from the heater just warm air. Upper hose to heater core get hot, lower hose is only warm. 90,000 miles and radiator fluid kind of rusty looking. I'm going to flush the heater core with a garden hose from the lower hose that only gets warm and allow the upper hose to flow out to the ground. Should hopefully wash out enough of the gunk to allow coolant to flow again. I have replace my radiator car, t stat, bleed the system of air, and topped off the coolant. It didn't make a difference so flushing the heater core is my last idea. Mother of defroster heat, pray for me!

    Engine warms up, but I get very little heat in my interior.  The air blowing from the vents is not as cold as outside, but not as warm as it should be.  What could be the problem?

I replaced my 2004 Nissan radiator and thermostat still over heating , any ideas?


Is the thermostat installed up side down. That does happen sometimes and will cause that.
Is the radiator a new one if not could be plugged and won't let the antifreeze flow.
Is the water pump functioning right. Check your belts as well.
Is the fluid in the rad up where it should be. Low fluid will cause the water pump to not work. Just thoughts of what would cause your problem.

What do I need to change thermostat in a dodge durango magnum 5.2


if its the stat then you will need a 13mm socket and ratchet with extension to remove the bolts that hold the stat housing to the motor. a drain bucket to drain the cooling system below the level of the stat, remove stat and clean surfaces on both the housing and motor. install the new stat and gasket reassemble in reverse order and refill the cooling system and run engine to operating temp and make sure all air is out of system.

Y wont my heater get hot and my ac wont get cold?


Ok well every heating system and A/c system work very much the same...there are some troubleshooting Steps I would suggest...
First for the heating issue:
Step 1: Check Coolant level Low coolant can cause warm to cool air threw your heating system, not enough to fully heat...Caution: make sure the engine is cool when checking..You should have a tank that you can see the level..if not the top of the radiator is good.
Step 2: Any leaks in the coolant system, by just looking under the hood depending on the color, (Purple, Red, Orange, and Green) The system needs to obtain a certain Pressure to be effective..
Step 3: If all above checks ok...Assuming the blower motor is working correctly and good flow is present, there may be a vacuum leak or electronic divert-er malfunctioning( mixing cold and hot air thus getting warm air)
Step 4: Bring it to a shop, you may have a plugged heater core, an malfunctioning Thermostat, or an inefficient water pump...Hope this helps.

As for the A/c Not cooling...All cars that are 96 or newer must be charged with R-134a refrigerant...This can only be serviced by a shop that can deal with A/C recharging...could be low refrigerant, bad a/c clutch, bad compressor good luck hope this help

Over heating


Thermostats in cars are often neglected, if not totally forgotten, units. Yet they play an important role in the general performance of cars by restricting water flow until the engine has warmed-up. Thermostats are heat sensitive valves that open and close. On cars they prevent circulation of coolant to the radiator until the engine is warm enough. When the thermostat is closed water only flows through the water pump and water jacket to let the engine warm quickly. When the thermostat opens, water can then pass through the radiator for general cooling.

Okay sounds like you have a clog within the system, first of all, drain the whole cooling system, run clean water thought the top of the radiator, look to see when the water comes out nice clear, replace the lower hose if you have a petcock close that, refill the top of the radiator, until it is full, start the engine, with engine running turn your heater, let the car warm a little, then reopen the petcock or loosen the lower hose and let the water draw out a little until is pouring out nice and fast, then re-close the petcock and stop the engine.
try and get 40% of the water out, and replace it with 50/50 antifreeze fill to the right point of the cars specs.

Which way does the waterpump turn on a 1985 Ford LTD 302?


The feature than can determine the way the pump turns would be whether they were driven by the smooth side of a serpentine belt on the one had, vs. the grooved side of a serpentine belt or a V belt on the other hand.

It would really be a good idea to get a numeric reading on the engine temperature...

Of course, the number one issue is the thermostat. If it is too high of a range, or is not opening properly, the 4-core radiator will never be called on.

Next is the possibility that steam/vapor is collecting around the t-stat. I had a big problem with that in an Aries K. Once it got hot enough to open the t-stat a few times the temperature settled down.

If the fan is not doing its job sufficiently you will get overheating at stop lights and in crawling traffic, but cooling that is fine above maybe 15 or 20 MPH.

If the bottom radiator hose has failed, it can collapse due to the suction of the water pump. For the whole length of that hose you should not be able to flatten the hose by hand. It should have a spiral of wire, a "spring," inside it that prevents that. If that wire has corroded, and isn't doing its job you can get compromised flow.

When the engine is cold, start it up. Before long, the heater hose that comes out neat the t-stat should start to warm up, while the upper radiator hose stays cold. The closed t-stat forces circulation through the heater system. This causes flow over the hot surfaces, and carries the heat from the area of the cylinders to the area of the t-stat. without that, the water's heat would take 10's of minuted to get to the t-stat.

Next, when the heater hoses get too hot to touch comfortably, but before the engine overheats, the upper radiator hose should start to warm up. The t-stat will start to open, and a little hot water will sneak out of the engine, heating the hose a little. That will introduce a little cold water from the radiator into the water pump, where it will get quickly mixed with the water circulating through the heater system, closing the t-stat pretty quickly. So the initial warming of the upper radiator hose will be pretty slow.

If it overheats before the upper hose gets too hot to touch, you have a t-stat problem. Either the t-stat is failing to do its job, or it is not getting the heat signal it needs to operate properly.

If the heater system is clogged or plumbed wrong, it will not allow the requisite circulation.

I hope this gets you on the road to fixing your overheating problem. A 302 with a mondo radiator as you describe should have no overheating troubles, even in the desert!

My 2001 lincoin ls gauge goes up to the h and then come back down


you probably have air trapped in the system. Have dealer or radiator shop bleed system.

I assume your cooling fan is working.
