It is the TPS that is faulty. it's the throttle positon sensor and is located on the throttle body it's colored black, is held down by (2) screw/bolts and has either a 2 wire or 4 wire plug this is an easy fix and the replacement part can be purchased at a local auto parts store like Napa for alot less than at a dealership.... please rate the solution.....thanks

I have a 96 dodge intrepid that is running a low idle, around 500 to 650 rpm. I have checked and changed the IAC valve and the trottle position sensor. What else would controll the idle? Bad computer...
I have a 2000 malibu 3.1, and it idles at about 650 rpms. good-day ! all runs fine.

97 dodge intrepid 3.5L has a 1500 rpm high idle, 197500 miles. checked idle circuit, some carbon but wiped right off, inspected vacuum hoses everything looks good, pull off a hose and it goes even higher....

2000 dodge intrepid 2.7 sputtering, revs up
you need to ck some basics you could have a vacuum leak which would hide during warm up but cause havoc when hot,the leak would cause high idle then your pcm would try to lower idle to spec thru use of idle control motor causing surging idle ,also fuel pressure needs to be checked while acting up,may be more cost effective to pay for an hour of diagnostic.

Only at high speeds or all the time? It could mean you need an alignment, new busings in the front suspension, wheel balance, etc.
