One or the other. Before I would change out a catalytic converter, I would want the old one tested first to make sure it is bad. Or you might just try a new oxygen sensor on bank 1. Bank 1 would be the driver's side, or whatever side of engine has the number one cylinder-that is bank 1.
P0420: catalyst system efficiency below threshold (Bank 1).
Hello! #1...I need to know if the Check engine Light is on...If it is, take the vehicle to an Auto Zone or Advanced Auto (any auto parts store) and they, for free will read the code/codes...send the trouble codes to me and I'll fix your Focus...#2 tell me which engine is in the car; give me the sub model ie...SE, ZTS....etc...If there isn't a CEL tell me....Guru...Saailer
DTC stands for Diagnostic Trouble Code. My question is why did you have the vehicle checked out in the first place? Is the check engine light on? What was the code number and did it start with P0 or P1. If you don't remember then have the code(s) cleared and operate the vehicle until the code(s) reappear. The code or codes can help you to determine where to start looking.
p0420 is a converter code how many miles on vehicle has it been or is it running bad, exhaust leaks, damage to converter itself ?? any other codes in pcm
Need to have it check out, what the light means, is the computer pick up a bad signal from one of your engine sensor's, most of the time engine will still run good, but will damage other sensor, and engine will start to run bad, go to any auto parts or autozone, where they will do a code reading for free, get back with us with the code number, and we will help you diag. your trouble code, hope this was very helpful.
have vehicle scanned for the trouble code some thing is going and the code will give u ur starting point most auto stores will scan for free such as auto zone / advanced auto --if it smells like rotten eggs or like sulfur most likely catalytic converter going
it means there is a trouble code in your computer the only way to read them is to have a diagnostic computer for your car. most shops probly wont be able to read alfa romeo codes so you may need to shop around
if its a 4cyl. replace both coils, they commonly go bad with time and milage, they short out and arc to the valve cover ,also check the timming belt, it may be starting to get ready to strip the teeth off. if its a 6 cyl, after replacing plugs and wires, check the crank sensor, they also go bad with time and milage and can cause misfiring and stalling. hope thats usefull to you..
