Question about 1997 Dodge Ram

Starting the 1997 Dodge Ramm 2500 van

Recently, the van wouldn't start. So, my husband replaced the fuel pump after checking the carburator to see if fuel was going through it. Which, it wasn't. It may start for just a few seconds then dies. It just had a tune up and all kinds of work done in the shop. If my husband pours gasoline into the carburator it will start then die. What could it be?

The fuel filter is in the fuel pump in the tank. It's all one unit.

He just got an ohmmeter but is having trouble trying to figure out how to use it. So, as soon as he figures it out he will check the voltage and fuses.LOL. This has become a nightmare. Thank you for your responses.

Still haven't fixed the problem but we became so busy that he hasn't got out there to mess with it yet. I'll let you know what happens next time he works on it. Thanks.

Engine hard to start after sitting

Sounds like it could be a carburator issue. Fuel could be leaking out of the fuel bowl or back to the fuel tank. You can tell this if you have the breather off and *before trying to start the engine* operate the accelerator arm on the carburator as you look down into the carburator. If the fuel hasn't leaked back you should see it shoot some fuel into the carburator. Also could be a fuel pump problem where the pump lets the fuel leak back and there isn't fuel there to pump up to start the engine when it's cold. Also the 360 wasn't released until 1971 so it's pretty safe to say it's not a 1967 or not a 360.

The van has a emergency cut switch that keep the van from starting it a 97 dodge van

Theres a fuel pump relay under the hood on the drivers side, this would stop the flow of fuel. Does the van crank over?? If not check the starter relay.

1995 dodge van falls down when the fuel tank gets to 1/4 of fuel

sounds like a possible pluged fuel filter or a tired fuel pump. the pump is cooled by the gas. so if you work it at 1/4 tank or below it tends to get hot. but towing may make it hot anyway. check fuel pressure and the replace the fuel filter
