You may have a problem witrh the TPS, that is the trottle position sensor, replace it and ten disconnect the battery for 30 minutes.

I change the TPS a couple weeks ago and so far its ok.I am pretty sure this was the problem because the plastic piece that cotrols the throttle was very loose and cockeyed. The replacement also has a spring to pull it back, and is a lot tighter.I did not disconnect the battery and its working fine. bobs1948

Check the IAC (Idle Air Control). Usually found on the air intake.

Rough idle on pontiac grand am

pull the air intake hose off the throttle plate, you will find a lot of black carbor around the throttle plate causing idle concerns. clean this with a intake system cleaner. this will smooth out the 2.4 liter quite a bit

My sunfire wants to stall at stop signs or when sitting idling on the highway it is great, no problems I have put a new fuel filter in changed the IAC censor and the air temp. censor.

you mat want to check the throttle body and make sure the throttle plate is clean from tarnish build up. you may also want to check for vacuum leaks around the throttl area that can cause an unsteady idle. a faulty MAP sensor can also create an idling problem but run good at highway speeds.

Excessive RPM's. Sporadic Idle problem. Sometime idle is fine around 1000, other time's between 1500 to 2800.

have the idle air control and the mass air flow sensor checked out. Auto Zone will check it for free

100k miles means a knackered engine. You will start having problems with it when it reaches this kind of mileage.

Just moved from New Mexico to Florida and the gas mileage in my 2000 Grand Prix and dropped to about 10 to 12 mpg. Is it the change in elevation?

I just dealt with a similar issue.I moved from Florida to Missouri and yes there is a difference from elevation and the humidity in the air and gas mileage.

High idle; 1500-2000 rpm; suspect idle control module?

First I would look for a vaccum leak. Many times a high idle can be the result of this. Just listen for a hissing sound while the engine is running. Sometime it may even be a cracked vaccum line and you can't hear hissing. Use some WD-40 or carb cleaner and spray around the suspected area or hose. If the engine slows down for a minute when you spray you've found the leak.

Grand prix wont idle

There are 3 things that should be checked.
The idle air control valve (some call it a fuel bypass valve)
Throttle position sensor
and a fuel pressure test done. The idle air control is usually mounted on the throttle body, so is the tps which has a black plastic casing. good luck.
