PICTURE OF PURGE LINE DIAGRAM FORTHE COOLANT SYSTEM OF A 2001 CADILLAC DEVILLE DHS ENGINE

There are a lot of coolant lines around the Northstar engine, but not one called a "purge line" that I am aware of. The coolant system is designed to be a closed system, and is never purged.

However, there is a rubber drain line on the pressurized overflow tank that will release coolant on excessive pressure sensed by the rad cap on the tank, or if the rad cap is faulty. If the system has a leak anywhere, it will not hold required pressure and that will always cause overheating. If you are losing coolant, that is the first place to look (bad rad cap, or cracked tank or line from the tank to the rad).

I have a 2001 dhs. I replaced the starter on it because it wouldn't start and was spinning freely when trying to start. Replaced starter but still have same problem.

What is DHS? At the moment my mind went blank?
Is this a car or truck starter? You may have to check your flywheel? Does the starter kick out the drive gear and spin, can you visually check that the drive gear engagers the flywheel.

I own a 2001 Cadillac DHS. The "SERVICE ENGINE

p0071 is the ambient temp sensor which is located by the hood latch behind the grill. They have the yendency just to go bad and you can replace the part for about 30.00 dollars. The dealer is usually higher than a transmission shop. It requires removing the engine and transmission at the same time which means removing the complete frame. A smaller shop may be able to beat the price if you can find one that works on caddies. Some will and some won't. I would shop around.

I have a 2002 cadillac dhs and the check coolant level comes on. why is this happening. I had the system flushed and it still comes on. Also, my check system stablilizer comes on also. Please, I do...

Re: I have a 2002 cadillac dhs and the check coolant level comes on. The coolant sensor is located in the overflow bottle and it is prone to failure. Unfortunately the only way to get it is to repl. coolant overflow bottle.

Cadillac dhs 2001 over heating

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage. The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side to near the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.

I have a 2001 Cadillac DeVille DHS, 144K miles, runs pretty smooth except some warnings: 1. Check Gas Cap warning is always there even after I tightened the gas cap, 2. Service Engine Soon light is always...

Yes, first try securing it tighter. This means until you hear it making noise. Go to advance or autozone and have them reset the code. If it still turns the SES light on, replace the cap. My 2001 DTS did the same thing at 144K. You may be on the same track I am on. So far I replaced that, the EGR solenoid (get the Delphi brand) and now it looks like I have to replace my EGR vent. During this I also had to replace my fuel pump. Fortunately on this model it's easy to get to through the trunk. I ended up having to splice in a new connector. They don't come with the old one any more. Good luck.
