1997 saturn sl2 key is in start position, no ignition, lights are fine

The car was fine earlier, got back in and no start. Everything else seems o.k., no noise or anything from the starter.

I had this problem with my 99 SL2, it was the starter. I checked for codes and there weren't any. Take your starter to a place like Auto Zone where they can test it. Most likely they will find that it is bad.

My 97 saturn sl2 will not start

You'll need to crawl under the car and check for power on the small terminal of the stater with the key in the crank position. Knowing if you have power there will help to give you a direction to go in. If you don't have a test light or a multi meter, you can jump the large wire at the starter to the small wi at the stater with the key in the off position. If the starter works than you'll need to focus on wiring. If the starter doesn't work replace it.

This problem usually doesn't show up on diagnostic, it is a problem that saturn has with many of it's cars, it is either the ignition module or the crank sensor, I think replacing the crank sensor would be your best bet, that is what was wrong with mine and I didn't find that out until I replaced the fuel filter, the fuel pump, the ignition module and the coils, trust me, go with the crank sensor.

Replaced Key Ignition and car won't start

First off 230,000 miles is more than most cars ever see. I must suggest because of this high mileage you have a professional come out and look at it.
www.craigslist.org is a great place to find someone to come to you. Many of these men are working on the side - weekends etc to help their income and as a convenience to you - the customer.
With that many years and miles - things that can and do go wrong are many - about 20 different interlocking problems present themselves.
