1993 Ford Aerostar Parasite drain on battery

My 1993 Aerostar 3.0L van has developed an intermittent battery
current drain with the ignition switch off. The battery sometimes goes
dead in a couple of hours. New alternator & new battery from Advance. There's a - 4 amps draw on the right side of switch on the frame ( don't know the type of switch ). Solution for now is to disconnect the negative battery connection when parked & charge the battery to start the car.
Ford dealers said there are no open recalls. Any clues?

I found a wire on the right side of the frame that's drawing over 4 amps, but it branches out into other wires inside the driver side dash area.... Shut-off switch maybe the only solution for now. Thanks for your help! Gloria

I changed the starter solenoid on the fender well. One of the wire from the solenid is drawing 4 amp + when parked. I did get a cut-off battery switch. Now, the check engine & battery stays on when driving. Also, sometime it does not pick up when accelerated.

You should not worry about the batteries, but look again what's is the real problem if there is one.

Id check the ignition coil to ensure its not arcing that seems to be a problem on the aerostars. One thing ive known people to do and recommend for troublesome times when they cant find whats draining the battery. Is to get a battery cut off switch and install it which is fairly easy and takes ten minutes. But first check the ignition coil to see if its arcing, also check to see if you can find whats drawing power by chasing it down with a multimeter.

Thanks,
Nate

Blower motor is in dashboard. Problem could be with motor windings, bearings, fuse, relay, and switch. Check them all out.

Electric windows on my 1993 aerostar do not work consistently, I cannot find the system diagram I remember seeing in the manual. I traced the problem to a relay shared by both windows, but cannot recall...

The below diagram applies to your van. Inconsistent response is usually due to a loose connection or worn out switch. Please let me know if you have more questions.

How to get to the thermostat on a ford aerostar 93 awd van?? where is it located??

1993 Ford Aerostar 4WD 4.0L MFI 6 Cyl Repair Guide

1. Drain the cooling system with the engine cold.

CAUTION When draining coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

2. Remove the retaining bolts for the thermostat housing. Lift the housing clear and remove the thermostat. It may be easier to clean the gasket mating surfaces with the heater and radiator hoses removed from the thermostat housing.

Sounds like the front calipers are not fully retracting properly. Check the front caliper operation while a friend pumps the brake pedal, the rubber lines could also be cracked and allowing air into the lines. Check brake fluid level.

Ford aerostar clicks but will not start

Could be two things. Older cars have problems with a build up of resistance in the ignition circuit this can cause the car not to start. The fix for this is a new ignition switch (the electrical part not the key part) or your battery is either going dead or is very weak. Charge the battery and see if that helps. Be aware, if your maintenance free battery is more than 5 to 7 years old, it should be replaced.

Good luck!
