Where is the thermostat on a 1996 Avalon?

I am trying to figure out why my 1996 Toyota Avalon is overheating and thought first the thermostat was the likely culprit. But this is a little more complicated to find than I expected..

Follow the upper radiator hose away from the radiator toward the motor and that is where you will usually find the thermostat housing.

check the installation of the thermostat
the body of the thermostat has to face the head or block as it requires hot water to make it open
installed incorrectly will cause over heating

My 96 toyota Avalon is overheating and the heat has stopped working? Replaced the radiator and still overheating

Did you also change the thermostat while you were doing the rad? The thermostat is the most common cause of engine overheating, it should be changed every couple years whether it is acting up or not.

My 1996 toyota avalon is overheating. There are no leaks, thermostat is new, radiator is new and has been flushed, changed the fan relay. Don't know why its overheating.

Is the fan coming on? If not, possible lower radiator fan switch/sensor? No leaks... So overflow tanks level stays stable? How do you know it is overheating? Elevated temp guage? Engine smells overheated? Both? We need more info.

My 2001 Toyoya Avalon is overheating what could be the issues?

Make sure the electric cooling fans are coming on. If they are, you could have a bad thermostat and gasket. If the fans aren't coming on, you probably have a bad coolant temp sensor. Also, check your fuses, if the fans aren't coming on.
