Generally check engine light problems have to be checked with a diagnostic tool. Under the dash would be a rectangular shaped plug with about 8 prongs, not sure exactly. That's normally where you would plug in the diagnostic tool.

Ah, interesting, never heard of any self diagnosing cars unless it's in plain sight on your dash.

I think it costs between 50-100 for a shop to do the test for you, or buy the tool yourself which starts at 150 for a very simple one, and goes up from there. I don't have much knowledge of the diagnostic tools, I just know they're used to surface small engine problems that otherwise would not be noticed.

Sorry if i can't help ya

1992 grand marquis check engine light comes on when driving. Garage used diagnose machine but came up with no code. Don't know what to do. Sometimes the oil light will appear as well, then car stutters at...

But the garage knows what to do

Don't need codes to work on finding
problems

Did they road test it
Did they component test it

What have you done for the last 30 years--nothing !

I have got a mercury grand marquis 2003 LS ultimate and having a knocking noise for few seconds when accelerating sometimes specially when the engine is hot and that will reduce the power. any ideas?

When you say the engine is hot are you talking about the normal operating temperature? Has the Check Engine or Service Engine light come? If so, was the On Board Diagnostics system checked for a codes? Usually a knocking sound during acceleration indicates a improper fuel mixture or low octane.

Have 04 mercury grand marquis check engine light is on for code po452 had that fixed and light still on

Well ---PO 452 is still FTP Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Detected
new sensor or not

If the sensor reads less than .22volts with key on /engine off --you get a hard fault (code)

Check Sensor Connector

Sensor with no pressure or vacuum in tank is 2.4 to 2.8 volts
Key On/Eng Off On scan tool PIDS

You just need a shop with a data base & proper test procedure
or a different tech or different dealer.

I have the 2004 gas engine emissions diagnostic manual for all
2004 fords, as I have a Lincoln LS,so I don't know why a pro
couldn't resolve

Displays 104 when it is 65 control is whacky'is it sensor or thermostat, or what

Try this test for codes

Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module Self-Test
  • The EATC module self-test will not detect concerns associated with data link messages like engine coolant temperature or vehicle speed signals. A diagnostic tool must be used to retrieve these concerns.
  • The EATC module self-test will detect concerns in the system control functions and will display hard diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in addition to intermittent diagnostic trouble codes for concerns that occur during system operation. The vehicle interior temperature should be between 4°-32°C (40-90°F) when carrying out the self-test. If the temperatures are not within the specified ranges, false in-car temperature sensor DTCs will be displayed.
  • The self-test can be initiated at any time. Normal operation of the system stops when the self-test is activated.
  • To enter the self-test, press the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously and then press the AUTOMATIC button within two seconds. The display will show a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window. The test may run as long as 30 seconds. Record all DTCs displayed.
  • If any DTCs appear during the self-test, follow the diagnostics procedure given under ACTION for each DTC given.
  • If a condition exists but no DTCs appear during the self-test, GO to Symptom Chart Condition: The EATC System Is Inoperative, Intermittent or Improper Operation.
  • To exit self-test and retain all intermittent DTCs, push the blue (cooler) button. The control will exit self-test, retain all intermittent diagnostic trouble codes and then turn OFF (display blank).
  • To exit the self-test and clear all DTCs, press the DEFROST button. The vacuum fluorescent display window will show 888 and all function symbols for one second. Then, the EATC control assembly will turn OFF (display blank) and all DTCs will be cleared.
  • Always exit the self-test before powering the system down (system turned OFF).
  • Intermittent DTCs will be deleted after 80 ignition switch ON cycles after the intermittent condition occurs.

2001 Merc Marq automatic ac blower motor stopped working. I wired blower directly to battery with a fused switch. This has worked for past 9 months----but, now the compressor stays on when the switch is...

check the fuses and blower motor resister first. Some systems don't have resisters. Use blower motor speed control instead.

SECTION 412-04: Control Components 2001 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Workshop Manual
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Blower Motor Speed Control Removal and Installation
  1. Disconnect the wire harness connector.
  1. Remove the screws and remove the blower motor speed control.
