Hi mr Johngee ,Reg my audi 80 cabriolet , I bought it without battery. I put a new battery just to turn the engine on in garage while waiting body parts from abroad for about six month at home. But when i move the car to the repair garage ,they remove my battery, and after repair of about one month they put a smaller battery provisionally because they lend my battery to somebody. It's on that same day the car breakdown.

Dear Johngee 10 ,reg audi80 cabriolet I would like to rectify that instead of check engine light it's temp light flashing together with battery light flashing rapidly. I would like to know from where the ground connection situated.Where does it start and ends.

Hi mr Johngee as I told you the engine dies , when I turn key there is no sound .The electric man came and he removed the central locking fuse the engine start turning ,there is spark but still fuel pump not working and injectors not opening.Should I look i look into the cable between fuse box and computer as you told me about the two connections (ignition and battery).Or is it an immobilizer probrem.Give me your suggestion. Thanks Anil

Hi Johngee the electrician check wires and found that the fuel wire line from computer connected under to the fuel pump relay was loose. Try to adjust it and now car is starting normally but I have not yet taken the car for diagnostic to see if it's do have connection. One thing I want to know remember I told you that the electrician removed the central locking fuse ,tell me if I put it again will it be OK or it may cause trouble . Should I bypass it or there is another solution. What to do?One more thing i want to know ,as the car was crashed at the back I don't have any ref for my colour codes and the car was privately imported from england. how am i going to get it or can you find it for me my chasis no is wauzzz8gzra006529 year 1994. Thanks Anil

Hi anilroop,
Your problem seems to be related to the power connections to the management computer system system..... Get yourself a multi meter and check the battery voltage first....have you replaced the battery?

Sometimes when a vehicle has stood for a long time, oxidization can build up between the battery towers and the terminals....this can cause intermittent faults, such as you're describing....but it's unlikely!....If you find that thats all ok, trace through the cables that connect to the computer....

......There will be an ignition connection....
......A battery connection, which should always have power, even with ignition off.....
.....There will be starter signal and ignition signal.....

.......Check the ground connections and then, and this is going to take time....trace through all the cables from each of the sensors and the controlled units....Make sure that the pump is getting power and that power is getting through to the ignition....

This is a very lengthy topic and I believe it may be a lot easier to do it in stages.....

This is the end of the first stage.....keep in touch and I'll give all the help that I can.....

Best regards Johngee10

  • Hi Anil,

Sorry for the the delay in replying to you....Sometimes I just can't connect to the Internet.... Sometimes I too tired to even try to hook up....

Anil, the engine lights that your referring to, do flash in the Audi, when the ignition is turned on.... They keep flashing until the engine has started and the computer has run through the fail safe menu.

With your explanation regarding the central locking, I would look at the anti theft device.... Sometimes the anti theft units can remain dormant, even with the battery disconnected and then re-engage with no warning.... This can be caused by a tiny surge through the system when the battery is reconnected...

The earthing connections are usually found close to where the computer is mounted.... I'll do some home work and try to find out the color coding for you....I think that the earth connections are brown, but I'll make sure and confirm.....

I have a 97 3000gt sl.. I am experiencing an electrical problem! When I turn my car completely off and even open the door the radio will still stay on as well as the tail lights and side running lights....

Yes, electrical problems are very difficult to trace. My wild guess is that someone did some recent repairs to the car. Possibly a crash and body repair. In the process of the crash some wires were "shorted" between power supply to the ignition switch and
the devices that are malfunctioning. If this is true, take it back to the repair facility. If you did something in DIY repair, triple check your work. Do a very careful visual inspection of all the wiring from the battery to the ignition switch. I like to use the new led flashlights in the dark to follow all the wires. You may also have loose connections that are shorting to these aberrant devices.

Is it possible to repair the back window seal on a A4 convertible

No in my experience, 15 years in the Trim industry, you cannot repair that problem you must replace the window section ( if the tiny zipper is still intact) with a new Audi part.
