Question about 1993 Mazda 323

2 Answers

Car I recently bought a mazda 121 1323cc petrol 1993 that was off the road for 2 years. The problem is that it jerks in lower gears and loses power in the higher gears. I have changed all the filters oil, fuel, air,. I flushed out the engine and put in new oil. I have put in all new spark plugs but it is still jerking. A friend of mine who is not a mechanic said it might be the automatic choke. I was wondering how to fix this. I can't even find it let alone fix it. I am working to a very tight budjet and need to do as much of the work on it myself. Jimmy

Hi, Are you talking about automatic transmission. Normally Mazdas start to trouble above 100, 000 miles with automatic transmission.

When you say, looses power in higher gear, do you mean car stops?

If so, the problem is definitely with the transmission.

You may have to transmission which might cost you around 1000 $

I actually meant replacing transmission in my previous comment.
    Sorry for the typo.
Jerking in lower gears in common among old cars. But loosing power in higher gear isnt.

My 2004 mazda mpv jerks to the left then straightens back out. This usually happens when I have to accelerate really fast or right about the time it shifts into the last gear.

Mike, this may be because the left wheel is the dominate drive axle (left axle locks up and pulls hard, while right side slips) when under power. Vehicles that do not have possie drive differentials have this pulling characteristic.

HYUNDAI TERRACAN LOSING POWER... Hi, I have a 2002 Hyundai terracan that has been losing power. along the highway and straight roads it was fine but on an incline it loses power and now has a job to do...

run the fault codes for an exact diagnosis but from your description of the problem I would be looking at a failing cat converter as it may be blocking up the exhaust system

Mazda 6 gears jerking between 80-100km.. the transmission was recently refurbished by local dealer but they seemed to be lost what could this be?

Check you tranny fluid make sure its full. Also check if its not leaking into the gears making them to slip while changing gears. Also as the transmission job is done.Make sure the transmission is aligned properly. If you feel a strong **** or clunk while shifting, the car may have a transmission problem. Every gear should shift smoothly and easily without any noises or jerks. If still the same problem then its the transmission problem it has to be replaced. There are many many other users facing the same exact problem in Mazda -6 cars. That mazda is having transmission problems, they had it on the 6 and they now have a new program to upgrade the car software to fix the shifting problem .Ask you car Mazda dealer about the updated program for this transmission shifting problem. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

I just bought an 1993 mazda rx7 today but it wont start last

bastard things are prone to flooding im afraid, take plugs out, whizz it over for 30 seconds be patient and wait for half hour to give time to dry out, then a couple of squirts of oil in each plug hole, whizz it over for about 2 seconds, then a couple more squirts of oil in each plughole again, replace (dry) sparkplugs, leads on turn it over and it should go.ive suffered this twice this year (in the rain).
repeat if nescessary
avoid this problem by NOT RUNNING for LESS THAN 5 MINIUTS,as this is caused by a rush ov petrol because ecu thinks engine is cold so injects more fuel, then you turn engine off, this rush of petrol rinses the rotors clean of the oil they depend upon to maintain compression upon restarting, this is where the proceedure above works.

if it is jumping gears, the gear box will not do that, it is more than likely your sedondary inside the transmission.
