Question about 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Occasional Battery Drain

I have a relatively new battery in my 2000 4runner. On the occasion, this morning, it will completely drain for no reason. Sometimes the headlights will stay on even though i am out of the car but this morning the lights were off so that wasn't it. Some kind of short? Any known electrical issues with this model? maybe it is all the washboard out here in WY.

Thanks for any help.

I just jumped it and ran it for 30 minutes to recharge the battery, turned it off now it won't start and has very little electrical response. Alternator? wouldn't it stall after 30 minutes of idling if that was the issue?

OK...i disconnected the battery and reconnected and everything works normally with full power. Any ideas?

The battery was not making a good connection would be my best guess, clean them both again to make sure.

What Systems draw power when the car is off?

Have to do a Parasitic Current Drain Test, to find
the circuit with the fault, then component test items
in that circuit

You have a module, relay or other item, not timing out
or going to sleep

You can have failed switches in the doors, failed alternator
diodes, many things that can cause that

Even the Evap System, which on some cars, run tests while
your sleeping, can be at fault

Check for OBD Codes in all Modules, with professional scan tool,
then do the drain test, leaving the doors closed

Battery goes flat over night

You'll need to have someone check for a battery drain.
Something in the car is using electricity when the key is off, or the battery has an internal short and is draining itself.
If you disconnect the battery overnight and it is still dead in the morning, you need a new battery.

My 1999 mercedes benz S420 has been sitting in my driveway for 6 months. The battery is now dead. Will i be able to jump it?? or do i need a new battery. Could not starting the car for 150 days drain...

Yes, you will be able to jump it. Yes, you will need a new battery. Yes, the battery will drain completely - actually, if you have at least an alarm system active , it will completely drain in less than 2 months.

What would drain the battery overnight, every morning car is dead. two mechanics can't find anything

If the battery doesn't have a bad cell in it then double check any direct hot wires that lead from the battery directly and disconnect any that are not needed. Typically an alarm will do this if the alarm is malfunctioning. On rare occasions a vehicle radio secondary power line will cause this to happen.

Will not start in mornings, have to jump start just to run. Will turn off and start up fine again but have to jump in morning again

Check to see how old the battery is, also has it been run down prior to this problem? If it has one or more of the cells may have gone bad and will cause battery drain. If a new battery doesn't fix the problem, have your vehicle checked for a possible short or battery drain.

Battery drain

Can't say if it is the cause of your drain or not, but the radio fuse is slot F7 and requires a 25-amp fuse.

1979 mercedes benz 300 d battery discharge

Go back to where you bought the battery and get them to check it. It could be a bad battery? If it is, they should change it.

If the battery is OK, go to an Auto Electrician and get them to put a DC clamp meter on the main return from the chassis. That will tell you if you have a drain.

2000 jetta has multiple alternator and battery failures

In my case, the instrument cluster was bad, causing the MFI display and radio to go haywire and putting a contstant drain on the battery. $760 to have the VW shop replace it. No problems related to the battery or alternator have occurred since.

Good luck.
