1987 ranger starter stays engaged

Even with key off and out of ignition the starter still cranks? whats up with this? Now it wont start at all! HELP!?

Its your starter solenoid. Common on this vehicle.

Put it in nutrule and turn it over while puting it in to park if it starts u need a whole new truck trust me jest got done workin on one

Truck turns over and starts when I connect battery???? No key is even in the ignition.

Starter wont engage


either the starter is not kicking out its gear to meet the flywheel or the flywheel has missing teeth. either way the next step is to remove the starter so it can be tested outside of the vehicle and the flywheel can be looked at through the hole where the starter sat.

Truck will crank but wont stay running.


fuel mixture? Timing?. Both could cause that effect.

I have a 2000 toyota avalon ignition problems


Hello I have simular problem the ignition on is stuck in that position with the key turned off and out of the ignition switch.It feels like the key switch is spinning freely in the ignition. Do I need an ignition switch?

After starting, the starter stays ingaged (GRIND)


shim the starter it sounds like it is staying engaged to the flywheel try shiming the starter

Turn the key on and the starter will not engage.


check fuel pressure.if not above recomended spec. replace fuel pump. for starting have solenoid 0n starter checked.

Ignition switch won't engage


well it can be 1 of two things it could be the solenoid or on some rangers thay have a switch on the cluch peddel. I hope this infomation helps you

The starter relay on the fender is the most common cause of this condition. ,It is on passenger side feder in the engine compartment, it is round and the positive cable of the battery goes to it,

it's a good chance that the solenoid on the fender is shorting and is the problem. it is hard wired to the battery so even if the key is off the voltage still flows to the solenoid. replace the solenoid on the fender. this is where most fords have them iit should be on the passenger side fender well. please rate this...thanks
