Question about 1996 Buick Century

Ignition switch I went to start the car and the key would no longer go into the slot... I jimmied with it for at least an hour, but with no success... any suggestions?

The lock cylinder has a broken pin or one that is jammed, try spraying some WD40 into the key slot, if that doesn't work you will have to replace the ignition lock.

It sounds like your cataylic convertor may have a ristriction in it Did you ever hear a rattle and sound comeing from it I have a 96 blazer mind went a couple of years ago did the same thing would run but didn;t want go any where

Security will not let Jimmy start


You might have to let the truck sit for a few hours in the anti-theft system has been triggered. Also, try unlocking the drivers door with the key. There may be a switch in the door lock.

Try replacing the ignition wiring harness in the steering column. These wires control I think everything electrical. I did and it fixed my problems.

Fuel pump. Listen for sound of pump when you first turn key. Have someone listen at tank when you first turn key. Costly part but most successful fix for most fuel problems.

Ignition Won't Unlock


You have to change out the ignition I just went through that with mine 2000 and it had to do with the button on the gear shift and lock in ignition switch.
It cost me around 400.00
