Question about 2002 Buick Century

1 Answer

Dash lights the lights for the dash, ie to see your speed and all those items in that cluster area are not visible, after having 'someone' check it, and said he replaced a fuse the next night they went out again - he could not tell me which fuse he replace so any suggestions. my fuse cover appears not to match the fuse arrangement or so it seems to me - thanks Kate

    I have changed the fuse and it works for a while then blows again. Can the headlight switch be bad since it ties the parklights headlights and dash lights together with either a switch ot potentiometer on the switch itself?

You can test all the fuses very easily.

if you have a test light, you could easily find a faulty fuse. it is like a pointed screwdriver with a 12 volts bulb in it. the end of the wire has a clip that you can clip to the ground or a known negative. then one by one touch the pointed tip to the fuse that you are testing.

if the fuse you are testing is the spade type;

the fuse has two bare metal points which you can test. if it would light to one end, the other point should light too. of the same brightness of course. if it does not light up , then the fuse is bad. if it is not as bright as the first point, it could be bad or not bad. you have to remove it and look closely to it.

if the fuse is glass type ;

test the metal part on each end of the glass fuse. same procedure with testing the spade fuse.

if you found the fuse and it is blowing every time you turn on the dash lights, then there is a shorted bulb some where in the dash or in the park lights. the park lights is also connected to the dash lights.

2006 Kia Sorento dash lights go off and on

Sounds like the connection behind the instrument cluster is loose, i had a customer with the same problem only on a 2012 camry and it turned out to be the connection on the cluster. I just adjusted the tension on the connection by bending the contact pins a little.

Dash cluster (speed and tach) do not reset and give false reading. Start and tach could say 4000 rpm's and speed at 80 mph in park.

Hello: You have a bad cluster. The only way to repair is to replace the cluster. It will also have to be programmed after replacement. The cluster was a high failure rate item from 2003 t0 2005.

Have 99 Dodge Caravan The Cluster is not working ( speed milage, shift pattern speed ometer, temp and fuel gauge. Is there a fuse for all or what do I look for the problem? The fuses all look...

with they key on whack the top of dash with the palm of your hand. Do this several times. If the instrument cluster come alive than you have bad solder joints at the main connector for the instrument cluster. The cluster will need to be removed from the dash and then disassembled. The broken solder joint(s) will be visible and can be re-flowed with a soldering iron.

Here are some pictures of the last one I fixed. You can see the ring around this joint this one happens to be the main ground for the instrument cluster.

Dash lights to speed odometer and a/c are out. check but could not find blown fuse. what could it be?

probably the light bulbs.the one in the heater control is extemely small,i had a hard time with the chevy dealer locating this bulb in his parts fish but it was there. the dash cluster will have to be removed to get at the dash light bulbs.the scews holding the dash cover on are not to difficult to locate. the upper ones are in the top kind of inside the area under the dash top pointing uppward the lower ones you may have to remove they cover under the botoom by pulling it toward you but look for scews allong the bottom of it.

Where is the fuse for the instrument lights on the dash around the speed ometer and dash lights

Check the #4 and #21 in the Fuse Block; also review this document about ZJ-Secc-8W-Wiring-Diagrams (Page 8W-37 Wiring Diagrams Index).

Maybe you can see the Fuse Applications Char, Fuses Cluster 1 & 2, or Instrument Panel Ilumination items.

Good luck!!!
